Dear pricescopers,
I posted a while ago asking for help choosing a knife-edge solitaire, but my girlfriend just got a plain WG round band from her grandmother, which I suspect will have a sentimental value and she will want to wear it at least initially, so knife-edge is out.

Here are my favorite settings, and since I haven't seen many solitaires in person, I need your help choosing the best setting that will make the stone look bigger/pop more since after seeing a 3/4 carat in person I was shocked at how small it looked :(((

Also what do you think of the Micro Pave, does it look this good and detailed in person or just like a strip of shiny glass? does it require constant cleaning to shine?

My stone is a RB 0.74 BTW

Thank you and now without undue delay I present you with my picks

1. BGD Classic Truth Sleek Micro Pave

Too hard to choose just one! But my favorites are the two WF Legato settings and the two BGD Truth settings. Did you get the diamond from one of those? If so, I'd choose the one who sold you the diamond.

I would not like a diamond e-ring setting with a plain band. I do like a plain e-ring setting with a diamond or plain band. So it might be good to just get a plain solitaire and then she could alternate her grandmother's band with a diamond band that you buy her at some point. I'd really suggest getting a diamond wedding band to go with the e-ring and just let her wear her grandmother's band when she doesn't want to wear her wedding set. Or if it is very thin, she could wear all 3.

My diamond is from JA whose settings unfortunately I don't like.

Exactly what I was thinking. Get her a plain solitaire and a diamond band to alternate with her grandma's band. But you are right it's so hard to choose just one they're all beautful. The Alessandra seems to be leading in the poll but I just called Dimend Scaasi and they don't sell their settings separate.

Oh and I have one more cute one, get this

The H Levi HEARTS AND ARROWS!!!

and a couple more

Scott Kay

and Simon G

and unfortunately not within my budget

Hi,

There are a couple I REALLY like and a couple that I'm not too fond of. I voted for #1 as the prettiest. It's kind of hard to pick though b/c of all the choices.

Have fun deciding!

Oh, sorry! I do now recall that Dimend Scaasi doesn't sell their settings unless you buy a diamond. I think they are missing many sales because of that!

Okay, if you go with a plain solitaire and diamond wedding band, then I am going to have to say that the WF Legato Sleekline is one of the most beautiful and elegant solitaire settings currently available. I spent a lot of time agonizing over solitaire settings a few years ago and started a very long thread on the topic! But since then, there have been nice new choices including the Legato. I also love the BGD repro of the classic Tiffany knife edge setting, but you said you eliminated knife edge due to the gm's band being rounded.

This, precisely.

And for what it's worth, I have a 3/4 carat and don't think it's small at all. ::) Depending on what area you live in, you might be hard pressed to find many stones larger than that. Don't stress about the size; it's more than respectable.

I started off with a plain 6 prong setting and matching plain band, and later changed my setting. I now wear my plain-shank solitaire with a diamond wedding band most days, and alternate with a plain band when I want.

Anything that tapers is going to highlight the stone beautifully, and there is a lovely symmetry and elegance to a solitaire and unadorned band. It's a classic, elegant and timeless look.

My personal favorites are the WF Legato, and the BGD Truth, both with the plain shank.

Here, this might help you visualize. It's not the best pic in the world, but here's my original wedding set. .75 carat in plain shank setting and plain band.

Geckodani thank you for posting this pic. I was also worried as to how the plain band will look with the e-ring if it had a different width but yours look perfectly fine. And what is your finger size for reference if I may ask?

I found a similar solitaire to the Alessandra from Brilliance.com that is pretty inexpensive!!!
Any experience with this jewler?

Finger size is 6.25.

Hello everyone, I wanted to post a reply with clarification and announcement.

I always felt that the best way to create the perfect setting is for us to have the diamond on hand and set it too. Creating a new setting, especially for diamond shapes other than Rounds, is more challenging if we do not have the diamond on hand. Since most clients were not comfortable mailing their diamond, we came up with this policy to simplify things.

Still, diamondseeker2006 is right, there's definitely a miss here both for us and our prospective clients. In this day and age of CAD accuracy I feel we can re-examine this policy.

I would like to make an official announcement - mention "PriceScope" and we will have any of our settings/special designs made for you. This will only be available to PriceScope shoppers for now.

Happy Valentine's Day to all.

all of them are great looking but If I had to pick one it would be the DimendScaasi Alessandra

Well, I think this is very good news! Dimend Scassi has high quality settings and it certainly will be nice to be able to recommend those settings again!

But Issac, you have every right to suggest that the diamonds be sent to you so that the ring can be made to fit that specific diamond. Most of the other vendors require that anyway. Plus, you know best how to finish the prongs, so I would think it would be best for you to be sent the diamonds anyway.

Glad you stopped in!

THIS IS WONDERFUL NEWS!

I've always loved your settings and now I can recommend them again!!!

YAY!

THANK YOU!

I voted Dimend Scassi.

Something about that setting was eye catching and different compared to others.

You know what? There is another gorgeous solitaire that you have not included in your selection and I thought I'd show it to you. This is my daughter's e-ring and it is the Vatche Caroline. It has tiny diamonds on the basket part. I love it and would choose it myself if resetting today (other than the fact she would be mad!)!

I absolutely love the Vatche Caroline, so that's one I would have suggested as well. One of my friends bought it for her .70 ct. diamond and it turned out just lovely!

The Sleek Line has always been one of my favourites, but I'm a solitaire fan, so I'd have to vote for the plain Legato.

If you could bump your budget up a bit, I love the HOF Truly Bridal Leaf setting. It's gorgeous

Oh believe me, I would if I could. But that one costs over $3000 in WG while the other plain settings (including the HOF ones) cost about $800-900

Just to make you feel better, I think that ring might have problems with a wedding band next to it. It is beautiful, though!

It does have a lovely matching band, DS :naughty:

Have you considered 6 prong settings? To me, they make the diamond appear slightly larger and more round.

Hi there - I have the legato (non pave) and think it's a very beautiful setting, but I love that Vatche Caroline!

I did look at some and they tend to make small stones look hexagonal

Damn.. I was ready to go with the WF Legato setting, but the DimendScaasi Alessandra is beautiful. Hrmph! Now what to do!

Benny, no second thoughts! You made a great choice!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Did you decide? I vote for anything with BGD's Truth head! That head is fantastic. Very delicate and really lets the stone be the star!

I LOVE the Vatche Caroline and the DS Alessandra. Just beautiful, fluid lines!!!

I love the Alessandra. It strongly resembles one of my all-time favorite solitaires, the MaeVona Westray, but the Westray has a knife edge (and is quite overpriced IMO).

I would love to see more discussion on this topic. I am in the process of looking for a very petite (size 4.25) slim tapered solitaire.

Any new players on the market? Any changes in availability? More opinions?
