Hi all,

My boyfriend and I have been looking for a EC stone for couple of weeks. We live in Australia and met up with some local jewellers, and we decided to get the stone from jewellers online as the price is more reasonable. After reading some threads about EC from Pricescope, I found it is so hard to find one based on our preference and budget. My boyfriend is going to NY, Vegas and LA this weekend for two weeks and he may have chance to check stones in person. Alternatively, if we can find one online and send it to his hotel which will save his time as he is on business trip with his boss.

Here are some specs:
Carat: 1.6-2.0
Color: E-G
Clarity: VVS1-VS2
Cut: EX-VG
Polish: EX-G
Symmetry: EX-G
Table: 58%-68%
Depth: 60% to 65%
Ratio: > 1.4
Budget: $12,000-$13,000 US dollar

So far I have only found two online.

The ASET of this one looks not good.

This one most specs met my criteria expect ratio 1.33 (I prefer rectangle) .

should I drop some specs? Any thoughts?

Many thanks.

Email Good Old Gold they have a number of stones in your budget, ask them to do a video for you and then you can visually compare them.

Your specs are unnecessarily restrictive.

The numbers of table and depth just show inexperience and a complete lack if knowledge about what makes a beautiful EC. And are making your search harder. Faceting and performance are all that matter. The numbers on the lab report have nothing to do with what makes an EC beautiful.

I may post.nore later for you. But for now learn how to read an ASET image for ECs by using the search function here on PS.

There are a LOT of bad EC's out there. And while I normally advocate buying in person OMG have I seen some awful ECs from inexperienced people who have bought them.

Here is the best stones for your budget at Enchanted diamonds. I pretty much ignored all your requirements except color, clarity, and budget. I specifically ignored your request for 1.6 carats and went with 1.5 because there is a lot more selection at that carat weight and a 1.5 carat stone can EASILY be larger than a 1.6 carat stone if the dimensions are right. WEIGHT is not size with ECs. DIMENSIONS matter.

https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Emerald/GIA-Certified-1-54-Carat-D-Color-VS1-Clarity-Diamond-8HJNQD Lovely stone. Yes, it's 1.54 but don't kick the poor thing out of the running for 6 measly points, it faces up the same as your 1.6 from ED above. It's got the 1.4 ratio you wanted, great performance, beautiful faceting.

At JA, these stones have promise, but you cannot buy an EC from those videos. You MUST have an ASET in addition, so if they can't get an ASET for a particular stone, it is out of running.
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.51-carat-e-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-1780208 (see this one is bigger than the 1.6 ED stone and it weighs less). DIMENSIONS not weight.

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.52-carat-d-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-818857 Just under 1.4 ratio, don't kick it out of bed, it's got the best shot of ASETing out.

Just reading through your links, Gypsy, as I'm considering a small (by PS standards ;-) ) EC in my wedding ring - thanks for posting them!

I can't believe any stone can have an ASET as bad as this, it's like it's deliberately been cut to be bad

Although, that said, I think they have fixed the P3 issues that some/most have? at the expense of the rest... lol

Thank you Gypsy. I have read through some your threads related to EC stones. I understand that to see the ASET and video/photo are more important than specs when comes to EC. I love the 1.54ct stone you linked it to me and the ASET looks so good; however, I still wanna see can I find a bigger stone. I tried to drop the color to H and searched from EDS and B2C, but it's still hard to find one with good ASET. Should I keep looking for it or go ahead with the 1.54ct?

Thank you Gypsy. I have found one in bigger carat and the ASET looks good, but I am not sure about H color and the ratio is 1.33 which worrys me it will more like suqare shape.

And this one. Is is worth to get an ASET?

The H is a nice stone. Remember to watch the dimensions not the weight. But its an excellent price point for the size and performance. You have to be okay with the H color though.

No, the other stone isn't worth an ASET.

I can see if there is one that is though.

I.33 is rectangular, I would not worry about that.

This is what I'd recommend you buy.

It's 600 bucks over budget, but it has it all and a high crown to boot. And we can help you save money on the setting so you can afford it. So if you have the room, buy it now.

This one looks nicer especially the ratio is closer to what I after. As our budget is $20,000 AUD including the setting and we are thinking micro pave thin platinum band. Do you think is it possible to do it within our budget ? My boyfriend will be in USA from 12th to 24th. I am afraid there is no enough time for us to order one and get the setting done before he heads back to Australia. Maybe we should go with plain platinum or 18k white gold band which is cheaper and quicker to get.
