Hi,

I am a newbie. It's been great reading all the posts on buying diamonds. I am trying to get stud earrings for my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. Since it's a major purchase, I could use some help.

Based on the reading the posts, I am trying to find diamonds that has

- Hearts & Arrows cut
- 3 ct each
- J or better
- VS2 or better

I have searched the online stores and identified the following.

www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/3.125-i-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104062605004
www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/3.170-j-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104064496002

Or

www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10288/
www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10287/

Which is better? Am I overlooking anything? Should I be looking at any other store?

Thanks for your help.

The cut is the most important aspect I agree hearts and arrows is branding and your paying for the name. Also vs is not necessary for studs .....I just bought a modest pair(compared to your coming purchase of 2.41 and they are F and G color and si1 and beautifully eye clean. As long as the stones are eye clean and i am talking 6 inches from your face not necessary to get vs stones. But I envy your wife... lucky girl

I'm curious about why you selected the 3 ct each size. Studs in that size would cover a lot of acreage in terms of both spread and depth. I'm probably going to be in the minority here, but to be honest with you, it's a size I'd associate more with a man's earring than a woman's.

VR beauty check out the 4.7 studs in the bling forum and you will change your mind size does matter.

However the only thing with 7 carat studs is that they might not be great for every day. I believe this is the size Kim kardashian just got from Kanye.. Her other ones are 3 carats total which is better for every day.

I kind wish mine were 3 for every day but my 2.41 are good size for me.

mom2boys thanks for putting your stones and the larger ones on just wanted to show VRbeauty that large stones can be beautifully carried by woman . I also agree that ideal stones are important.....

I can only recall one or two people here ever posting studs that were over 6 cts total weight.

For large studs, I vastly prefer the size that both mom2boys and Phoenix have (2+ ct range). I think they make a statement without being too large, and I also think both women have diamond rings that support that size stud. What size diamond e-ring does she wear?

If you really want 3.3 ct each studs and think her earlobes are big enough to handle that size, then go with the Good Old Gold pair. I like the color/clarity combination (mine also are H VS2 and I prefer both stones to be the same color), and they appear to be beautiful stones. I also buy ideal cut stones for earrings, although mine are quite small compared to those!

Haha, yeah, be sure her earlobes are big enough! Mine are only 13mm across,* so a 9.4mm stud would not only look ridiculous, but it would probably be painful, even with a 16ga stud. HOWEVER... if her earlobes are big enough, they'll look fantastic! (AND PLEASE POST MANY PICTURES.)

*Yes, I measured with calipers. I can't be the only one who did this. Please tell me I'm not crazy, someone. I determined SCIENTIFICALLY that 6.5mm is really the biggest I can go while still having them look like studs rather than ear-eating sparkle-monsters.

Hey OP, are you going to spend over $100K for studs or is this a prank on the PS community?

I was thinking the same thing but i have not been around here long enough to determine if these things happen or not.

Perhaps the OP will weigh in soon and give us feedback from suggestions posted above........

Yes. There are people with lots of money and the internet, who are looking to buy giant honkin' diamonds and want to buy well-cut ones. It does happen occasionally... as a few of the threads linked indicate.

That thought always crosses my mind, but since we have seen the outcome of a 6 ctw stud purchase relatively recently, I always respond as if the request is a real one. We find out if they come back with pictures.

Funny cause as of today we are all talking to each other he doesn't seemed to have come back to comment since he started this thread lol.

Well, since the OP has not come back.............I think we can all concur that he should buy at Tiffany's because he will ge the best bang for his buck

edit: since my last I think I have found the perfect diamond to fit on her ear:

Hi,

Sorry for the long note.

Thanks for your replies. We just came back home after spending the weekend elsewhere. Since my wife has been with me all the time, I haven't been able to look at Pricescope and reply. This has been a challenge. This is supposed to be a surprise.

Why VS+

Thanks for pointing out 'eye-clean' is sufficient and VS+ is not necessary. While this is not an investment, I read some where VS+ & I+ will hold it's value. That's why I was looking for VS+. Is there a merit to VS+ and I holding value?

Why 3ct

I wanted to do something special. 2ct seemed small when I looked at it in Tiffany. And, I have seen some one wearing 3ct and it was special. Once we get it, if my wife doesn't like it or it doesn't fit earlobes, I can return it and get something she likes.

Why H&A

According to PS, Cut seem to be the most important element in choosing a diamond. H&A seem to provide the max fire power. Is it just marketing or is there some truth to it?

Between the two options, is one pair better than other in terms of measurement?

Thanks for your help.

Please look at mom2boys studs they are amazing. 4.35 total carats. Regarding value. I am in the diamond/gold buying business and honestly if each of the 3 carat stones you buy are GIA certified vs G color stones they will be highly resellable but they will NOT be an investment...

I buy gold, coins, silver and diamonds and the only thing that truly is worth investing in is GOLD and Silver coins. With the gold market being at approximately 1450 a ounce a one ounce gold coin (with no key date) would sell for 10% below spot price. Also silver maintains it value with a silver ounce going for about $23.00

Diamonds do not what ever people tell you appreciate.....I haven't seen one person come into our buying shows that has had any offers in the area of what they have paid for the stones.

yes graded stones that are I and better and eye clean s11 and better do have resale but diamonds are not investments sorry......

Finally are you talking about 3 carat total or 6 carat total....If you google Kim Kardashian diamond studs you will see what 6 carat studs look like. I think that mom2boys again (I know i already said this) 4.35 is an amazing size. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't not accept a gift of 6 carat studs but I have read from several people that they have two pair one 3 total carat for every day and 5 or 6 for only special occassions.

Thanks, Heididdl! Another option would be to have the OP get slightly smaller than 3ct studs/ear and have delicate halo jackets made for them when his wife wants something blingier!

django, I am not sure you saw my earlier question, but what size diamond engagement ring does she wear? Many of us like our diamond earrings to be in good proportion to our diamond rings.

I think if you can afford 6 ctw studs, certainly go for VS clarity, why not? I'd want great cut, color, and clarity regardless of the size stones. No, one pair is not better than the other in terms of measurement. But I would not want a pair with one I color and one J color stone. I prefer the H VS pair because they are better matched.

I totally agree with DS plus to be honest I want to see these beauties once you pick them out.....The GOG stones look fabulous

I agree 6 tcw is not a suitable day to day wear. And, it may not go with her engagement rings. May be I will look for something smaller. But, 6tcw earrings would be special.

Time is running out and I need to buy them soon. I will post the earrings once I buy them.

Thanks for every one's suggestions.

thanks and GOG can find you stunners....I am sure ....these are mine F/G Si1 (EGL International yes I know grade them lower lol) 2.41
