Hello Everyone!

First, I just want to say that I'm very happy to have come across a forum like this, and I just want to thank everyone in advance for taking time to help me. I'll get right to it: I do not know much about diamonds, other than the little information that I have gleaned over the internet, much of which revolves around the four C's. All I know is that I love my girlfriend very much and I want to propose to her, but I want to give her a ring that she loves. My problem is that my budget is not high ($5000 after tax for the entire ring--that is, diamond and setting together; preferably, a little below that). My biggest fear is that I purchase a ring that was not worth what I paid, when I could have bought something much better for the same price. I need your help as I don't know anything about depth %, table %, angles, etc. I would like you guys to help me get something that's very good quality for that price since I don't know much about diamond specifics. I don't feel comfortable buying anything without having the support of people that know much more, like the people here. From what I've gathered, my girlfriend wants a micro pave halo ring (I think that's how you say it) in a round shape. Something similar to this:

I tried attaching images as examples from users on here as well (I hoped it worked, if not it's from this link:

). Of course, I understand, it will not be that big (She'll be happy with anything, I'm thinking around .7 center carat for diamond). Thanks in advance to everyone. I"ll take any suggestions, similar rings, websites, price quotes, etc, any help will be greatly appreciated). I just want to buy something similar that has good diamond specifics (like cut, sparkle, radiance, %s, angles--none of which I know about) and that I know my hard earned money was worth it. But budget is not big, but it's all I have. Thanks!

Hi and welcome!! I just wanted to say that your budget is not "low" and it's possible to do plenty with it, so don't feel bad about that at all! We just bought exactly what you described! 0.7 ct round GIA 3X (with good HCA/idealscope etc etc) in a round platinum halo for less than 5K with taxes included. Here is the setting: http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/french-set-halo-diamond-band-engagement-ring-in-platinum/4975 We did everything through Pearlman Jewelers (they helped us source the diamond and then sent it in to Ritani to be set) and they were great to work! There are many other options too and the experts will gladly help you. So don't worry, it can most definitely be done! :wavey:

ETA: Also, to give you an idea of what's possible with your budget, take a look at this thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-me-your-e-rings-under-5k.184135/

I am new here too but from what I can tell you should be able to get a decent diamond for that price. The only thing is, the setting you mentioned is also expensive. Micro pave and halo are basically a lot of extra diamonds and labor to set. It could be 1,500 and up just for the setting. I would opt for the bigger diamond in a simpler setting. But that look you mentioned is very popular with women right now so that just depends on how set she is on that. You might have to reduce the size of the diamond to say .5 if you want both. But maybe others will chime in here and find a deal for you. The setting you want is going to be another search just like the diamond.

Does the setting have to have diamonds on the shank as well? You could save money by just having a plain shank (no diamonds on the band) and just a halo around the stone.

This is my favorite and I think the best one for you budget and desired look. You could get one from ERD or others but they will not leave you much for the stone

looks like you can get about a .7-.75 ct stone in the near colorless range for the remaining 3k.
I like this one, though admittedly the clarity is a bit of overkill. I do think the I color would be just fine, as the size of the stone isnt large enough to show TOO much body color, and the fact that the halo will be hiding the side view.

great point. You can get a diamond band to pair with it, get a very similar look.

Yes - I forgot to mention in my original post that the diamond is an I/VS2

Thank you so much to everyone for replying and helping me out! I cannot thank you guys enough! Thank you jramy278 and craighnt for providing the reassurance that I needed as I though I couldn't get that ring with that budget. Thanks to JulieN, Neil, and the aforementioned users for the great suggestions and examples! LAstly, Sortmon, thanks for the reply as well as the suggestion; I'll definely take that into consideration. I think she would prefer the diamonds on that shank, but she would not mind at all if it were plain. Thank you guys so much! I welcome more suggestions, ideas, etc! And, I'll be asking for help when I narrow it down, but I would love more help!
