Please help me pick a pendant setting/ Should I make a ringdant?

My little sapphire came back from GIA and now needs a home.

I have my Jeff White sapphire and this one is very similar. I was initially thinking I could do a simple pendant (I included photos of ideas) but am thinking maybe a ringdant? Or maybe a toi et moi ring? I always lean rings cause I like to see my jewelry so I can admire it.

But another point is that if it becomes a ring I’d like it to end up in a piece that has a similar value to the Jeff White sapphire 3 stone so that each kid can get 1 as an heirloom down the road. I know it’s way down the road but we’re always trying to keep everything monetary as fair as possible for these kids.

Opinions?

How do you feel about a cluster? :kiss2:

That was my initial thought if I did a ringdant but I’m not sure if the value would be the same. I didn’t buy either sapphire at retail price so I would have to figure out what that is, then figure out the retail value of the surrounding diamonds would be.

The whole equality thing between the kids is so important to me because my dad and uncle have an off and on awful relationship due to one being favored. I’m probably over correcting here but I want my boys to be friends!

A little bit, yeah. At the very least, the value of jewellery changes over time. Who knows how much a sapphire will be worth ten years from now. Maybe diamonds crash and no one wants them. Maybe new gold deposits are discovered and gold value tanks due to overwhelming supply.

It’s impossible to predict the future. So just live in the now and make this stone into whatever you want to wear. Maybe that’s a different sapphire ring. Or maybe you want to make a pendant and wear it as a set with your existing ring. The possibilities are endless.

Btw I chuckled a bit at how you called a 3ct unheated sapphire “little”.

I’m so stressed about it that we’re trying to even out contributions to their 529s to the exact amount. I have gone through my oldest’s and have figured it out in 6 month increments and then I go into my youngest’s, figure that out, and settle up the accounts. We randomly threw in money into my oldest’s whenever someone gave us money for him or when we had extra so it’s kinda a PITA.

With that said, you make a good point. I just meant little compared to the Jeff White one lol. But also a 3 ct sapphire only faces up 7.5mm ;(

I just wanted to say that I love that you are doing something for both kiddos and trying to make sure it’s equal. Beautiful sapphires, I can’t wait to see what you decide on :kiss2:

Thank you!

That little guy is not so little! Beautiful, especially the cut!! Do you have a photo of this one and the JW one together? I ask because, for me personally, I either need the gems in a toi et moi to be really different or nearly identical. It would bug me if they're not similar/different enough. But that may not bother you. Since you already have that gorgeous ring with the same shade of sapphire, why not do the matching pendant? That makes the most sense to me!

The Jeff White one is the one in my 3 stone. After mulling on it overnight I think I will do a simple pendant. I can save $ and can always have it reset later if I want to.

Oh I see, so you mean you were going to pull it and do a toi et moi with this stone? I wouldn't do that... the ring is so beautiful! I love the pendant idea!!

For the toi et moi I would have used the ACA. I always think about upgrading it but there’s nothing in WF’s inventory that I feel like I need to have at the $ I’m willing to spend, so I never pull the trigger.

I did look into asschers and thought about something like this:

Ah this makes much more sense now. lol I can see why you're having trouble deciding. That is a lovely design, and I'm a ring person at heart. But I still love the idea of having a matching pendant to your current ring. =)2 Have you given any thought to including the ACA in the pendant design?

I'd say put it in whatever setting that gets you the most enjoyment out of. I too try to play it even with my kids and try to leave each with something but realistically that's many many years away. And they/their future loved one may want a completely different style to whatever you like. So just enjoy your jewellery now and don't worry about the future just yet.

I have not. I don’t know how I’d do that… but i guess I would need a 2nd diamond piece to go with the ACA at some point to even things out ;)2

I have reached out to DK for a quote so TBD!

Yes that’s a very solid point lol. I’m getting ahead of myself per usual. I’m leaning toward a simple pendant, which was my original plan for it.

Thank you all for helping me figure this out!

Do you all think this chain is baby proof? He’s grabby and pretty quick. It’s approx 2mm wide.IMG_8008.jpeg

Edit - baby proof and would work with the pendant size wise.

It works with the pendant alright, but I don’t know if I would call any chain baby proof.

Dang… the chain he snapped is being repaired. I might just reuse that and see how it goes/ try to remember to not wear any necklaces when I plan to carry him a lot.

I don't think it matters about the width but the weight. My 15g chain has held up through two babies.

I love this idea! I would do a second ring so they both get rings, of approximately similar value. They'll be worn in the same way, and there won't be any sense that one kiddo got something that can be used a lot (engagement ring?) and the other didn't.

I love the idea of a three-stone ring, but with half moon or pear sidetones.

I'm very boring lol it's just a curb chain.

Not boring… classic ;)2

I do have a 1.8 ct diamond solitaire that will eventually get upgraded and can go to the other kid. I just need a diamond pendant to match I guess :twisted2:
