Budget 8k-9k
1.24 - 1.25ct
G
VS2
Best cut possible.

I saw one on bluenile 1.24ct with the above spec Ex, Ex, Ex for cut sym and polish, but someone else bought it before I could. Price was 8kish or 6.6k per carat which was great. But it was just an ideal stone not signature ideal, so I was afraid brilliant wasn't that great. Please help this newbie find a great stone for that price. Thanks!

May I ask why your tcw is so strict?

I have found nice 1.2ct gs
And 1.25 ish Hs

Are you a little bit flexible?

I kinda have a setting already that would look best with a 1.25ct. The jeweler that will be setting the stone told me to find a 1.25ct or 6.9mm min to 7mm max. Something about looking from top down anything bigger than 7mm will block the smaller one out of sight and anything smaller than 6.9mm will have a gap of empty space. It's similar to a halo style setting.
Wife doesn't know much about the C's, so all she cares is on paper it's G, VS2 or above. I kinda think her friends have those specs on their cert though...:-D so she wouldn't want anything less on paper when they compare. I myself wants the best possible cut, so bluenile sig ideal or WF ACA would be ideal, but price would be alot higher than an ideal and just expert select.

I would strongly consider getting the best thing you can, and not trying to keep up with the jones. I mean, does the first friend engaged get to dictate what everybody else gets?? But if thats what she wants to do, thats what sehe wants. :halo:

is this too small? 6.87x6.82?

I don't think 0.01-0.3 mm will make a difference at all when setting the stone, so I think you'd be fine using the stone Niel was talking about... Also, a jeweler should know that ct weight really doesn't mean a lot when it comes to "fitting the measurements", as stones can face up in varying sizes for the same carat weight. There is absolutley no way you will be able to tell a difference in a 6.8 or a 7.0 mm stone. The width of a single sheet of paper is about 0.1 mm, so a stone that would be "blocked by 7mm" but "show a gap at 6.9" sounds a little crazy to me. I mean, our eyes can't percieve that difference at all. :))

That said, I commend you for trying to find the best cut for your wife -- she will thank you!!

Wow, thanks alot guys! The 1.22ct one looks great!
I also found this http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2977145.htm
It's totally within budget except I have to cancel the setting from the current jeweler and get another one for princess cut. I kinda feel bad he already have it shipped from another store to his store just waiting for me to find a stone. And then I have to convince the wife to go with the princess to steer her away from comparing with her girls since they can't compare square and round :-D But if all fails I would def go with the 1.22ct. Thanks again guys!

if she wants a round, don't go with a princess.

I believe the princess cut will face up smaller than the round. The dimensions are ~5.9mm x 5.9mm compared to the round that you want of 6.9mm. I am not an expert but I know 1 mm is a big difference in a diamond. I agree with Julie, if she wants a round, get a round. While a princess cut can be beautiful, it is definitely a special cut that not everyone will appreciate. Good luck!
