Hi everyone,

I am on the hunt for a diamond for an engagement ring. My total soft budget is about 15K. I want to keep it under 2ct to avoid paying the premium for going over.

So I need some help finding a well cut diamond between 1.7-1.99. I went to a few fine jewelers in town and nothing really jumped out at me. I am thinking of just going with whiteflash and getting something in their expert selection collection.

Here's my search criteria on james allen. Feel free to adjust..i am new to all this.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/?CaratFrom=1.70&CaratTo=1.99&Color=I,J&Clarity=SI1,VS2&Cut=Ideal,Excellent,TrueHearts&PriceFrom=400&PriceTo=15000&Sort=Carat%20asc%20,DefaultOrder&ViewsOptions=List&advancedParameter=Lab&showAdvanced=show&ps=50&Polish=EX,ID,VG&Symmetry=VG,EX,ID&Lab=GIA&Flour=None,Negligible,Faint&DepthFrom=59.0&DepthTo=63.0&TableFrom=53.0&TableTo=57.0

Something I found on whiteflash.

Did you buy it, cause it says sold. It's a lovely diamond.

We do have lurkers though. So... putting stones on hold before posting them is a good way to go.
yup. i bought it before posting because the lady at whiteflash warned me about lurkers. lol.

I am thinking of getting the 'Elena' setting.

She can't safely wear a wedding band next to that (unless it is made specifically for it, and maybe not even then) rounded pave shank. All that pave will either be destroyed by wearing something next to it, or eat into whatever it is worn next to... or some bad combo of the two. It really limits her wedding band options if not eliminate them.

Similar look but can be worn with more band options. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/caroline-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-by-vatche-682.htm Plus I've seen the Vatche in person and it's gorgeous. Your stone will also look larger in this setting and the prongs are much nicer.

thanks Gypsy.

I thought about that and then I came across the set. But you're right about the limitation of wedding bands.

Here's the "regular" elena.

and the set:

Let me look at the Vatche ones closer. I am not loving the double pave like that.

Gorgeous second one, wish I had a spare 14K or so :)

The knife edge in the Carolyn? It's really lovely in person.

I don't like the regular Elena that much... those tab prongs are just...they're love it or hate it, and I wouldn't risk those prongs or that head. I did see that they can do it without that prong shape, that is much better. So you can ask them if they will do the regular Elena but with the prongs/head of the rounded Elena one. That might work.

WF can get anything Vatche makes. Here's another option.

Girlfriend reaaaaaaaallly likes the other elena...oh well. it's her fault for wanting a band too. :) She likes the diamonds on the side on the mount. She was too fond of that pave diamonds facing sideways.

this is a disaster waiting to happen huh?

LOL. WF makes everything that is their own in house brand custom to order. They can swap out the big tab head of the regular Elena for the sleeker one of the rounded Elena-- if you want the regular Elena shank.

And if your lady wants the pave on the side and loves the rounded Elena... just let her know she will need to get a cheap spacer, probably a white gold one so it won't hurt the diamonds too bad, so that she can damage that instead of her wedding band. And that she should check her pave often professionally (any jeweler can) to make sure she's not damaging it.

A few of the ladies here have spacers that are 1mm or so. It is what it is.

Or she can wear it as a stand alone, and just not wear a wedding band with it.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.90-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-242715 This one would be my choice. It's a 60/60 a traditional cut. THe HCA is under 2. Put on hold at JA and ask for an ideal scope.

JA has a great return policy. And can pull the diamond and have a gemologist look at it for you.

We have lots of lurkers looking in your price range. Put the diamond on hold ASAP. It's no obligation. Just a precaution. And you can do it through the "Expert/Chat now" function on the site.

The tab prongs remind me of a more vintage look, and although I love them, Gypsy is right... the prongs remind me of this Tiffany setting:
http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/item.aspx?GroupSku=GRP10019&selectedSku=23811154#f+5/0/0/0/0/0

You may want to show her the WF photos of the claw or rounded prongs along with the Tiffany photo and see which prongs she prefers...
