Please help me design first pair of diamond earrings

Hi,

I've decided to purchase two diamonds for earrings. I tried on some settings at Tiffanys to get an idea of what may look nice. I liked bezel settings but found that it showed too much metal and I'd prefer it with millegrain. The basket design I tried on sat too far off my ear and was catching on my hair. I didn't get a chance to try a martini setting.
I am really looking for something classy and elegant that I can wear to work or or out to dinner. I may upgrade many years from now and am not sure if I should consider a more expensive handmade setting from VC,LM, or SK or the more reasonable cast settings offered from GOG. I have to make a decision soon and really need help!
Also I don't wear my earrings to bed but I would like it to be secure. Should I go with oversized butterfly backs or la pousette?

You're on the right track with the stones that are upgradable. If you think you might upgrade in the future then I
would not go with VC, LM or SK (save for your final upgrade). I love a delicate milgrain bezel.

How much are the cast settings from GOG? I have the non-milgrain version of these from BGD and they are very delicate and I have fallen asleep in them: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/studs/handmade-milgrain-bezel-studs-18k-white-gold-5566w18 I just have regular backs which feel very secure to me. Mine are just a bit smaller than yours, 1 carat total weight.

I'd do the standard martinis or baskets if you ever plan to upgrade since the settings will basically be money down the drain. You don't want the tiny push backs, but you don't need oversize for that size stud. Just the larger regular backs should be fine.

BG's milgrain bezels wold be lovely if you weren't planning to upgrade.

Thanks Dani and tyty333! Circe's bezel would go perfectly with the antique feel of my wedding bang and engagement ring! As nice as it is to have the option to upgrade I can't see it happening in the next 5 yrs or more. DH and I want to save up for a home and start a family soon. And ofcourse now having owned pieces from SK and VC I am drawn to the delicate beauty of their work. I have been lusting over nocturnes martini studs and micropave halo all morning! I love those jackets, too! Actually, VC made my sapphire earrings with single cuts, and with the increased size, you might not ever want to upgrade them. Just a thought.
