@Nicfit I’m a little confused. Both of these diamonds appear to have a crystal under the table (that you can’t see without a loupe). So I’m not sure how upgrading to another stone also with a crystal under the table that you also won’t see without a loupe wouldn’t also bug you mind-clean-wise. Maybe I’m missing something though. Is it just knowing one is an SI and the other a VS (is that the ‘mind-clean’ issue)? Or do you actually want a diamond that does not have a crystal under the table?

I like the proportions of the 2.32 I SI1. If it's eye clean, that's my pick.

@the_mother_thing My issue specifically is that the crystal on the 2.3 is black.

Too late to edit my original post but I’d like to add that I have the 2.321 ct.

Beautiful stone.

I know for some, clarity is truly a mind clean issue, so I will speak for myself only. I'm very flexible on clarity as long as it meets my definition of eye clean. My wife had an SI2 that was completely eye clean from any distance and any angle. We both loved that stone and it was such a great value (BGD 1.007 G SI2).

My mind clean issue is more about the proportions of the stone and having an amazing ASET. The 2.321 meets that requirement for me and is eye clean; so you've got a winner based on my preferences. This may not help you a whole lot, as only you can set your preferences and be comfortable with them from a mind clean stand point.

Not sure what the price difference is, but if something is eye clean and is a good value, it makes sense to me to save the $. However, a VS2 is my sweet spot, so I could go either way ;)

It’s 4K more, upgrading on 2 of the Cs. I could go either way, too. But..every time I admire my stone, I always think of the black crystal! Decisions, decisions...

@crbl999 Can you guide me on why you prefer the proportions of the 2.32 vs. the 2.37?

@Nicfit

2.37 34.1/40.6/55.3/61
2.32 34.5/40.7/55.1/61.6

The 2.37 is cut shallower. Depth is 61 and the CA and PA are also on the shallow end. The stone is cut with precision and that's why the angles work. This stone has slightly more painting than the 2.32. You will not find a super ideal that doesn't have some degree of painting. Painting in super ideals is used to enhance brightness at the sacrifice of some scintillation.

The 2.32 proportions land more in the middle of AGS Ideal and offer a nice balance of fire, sparkle, and brightness.

If something's going to bug you now, it's only going to bug you more as time goes on, so I think you need to look for alternatives that are definitely Mind-clean.

Mind-clean is a definite thing IMO and those of us with it must bear the burden it brings! lol

I’m of the “I fyiu can’t see it, you can’t see it” camp. Pile up four thousand dollars on your dresser and look at it for a couple minutes. Then look at your ring. Then look at your ring alongside the pile of money.

Is it nicer to have a ring and a pile of money? Or just a ring? Only you can decide. Or... maybe a ring and a pair of earrings or pendant?

@crbl999 has hit the nail on the head with proportions, etc here. In total agreement w/ him.

And @ringo865 I love your analogy. Many times we do get hung up on small details and forget the big picture. That said @OoohShiny makes a valid point that if something bothers you now it will only continue to do so more as time goes on; therefore, negating the great value of the initial purchase.

Alas, I have learned that dollar amounts are relative to the person. For some, $4k is a considerable amount. For others, not so much.

My own 2 cents -- because I like the proportions of the current 2.32 so much I wouldn't swap out unless I found a stone very similar to it. Of course, I'm very sweet on those particular proportions so my opinion is probably a little biased. So as long as I couldn't see the black crystal, I'd invest my $4k and once it grows to a more substantial amount I'd surprise my girl with an upgrade later that bumped up all the C's while keeping those awesome proportions. :cool2:

Gotcha, but you said initially the current diamond is eye-clean, correct? So you can’t see it unaided, you just know it is there, and that is the ‘mind-clean’ issue? The potential upgrade stone also appears to have inclusions under the table (that you also won’t be able to see unaided), so wouldn’t just knowing they are there as well also bug you? Admittedly, I sometimes struggle understanding ‘diamond mind-clean psychology’, so I don’t intend any sarcasm with my question; I just don’t understand the difference.

If I can’t see the inclusions (in the current or potential diamond), I think I’d be more inclined to save the $4K and/or add to it over time in an effort to upgrade to a VVS1 or IF stone. This is just my opinion, but I’d personally struggle with spending $4K on another diamond that will still have the same result - a non-visible inclusion. That’s just what/where I personally place value, and I realize we are all different in that regard, so YMMV. :wavey:

Or a pile of money with no ring.
