The appraiser told me this was Old Euoprpen cut, but I am not so sure about that.

Any thoughts?

Looks like an OEC to me too. Only other option is a transitional but I think it's an OEC. Looks like it needs a good bath :)) .

Ha ha! Sure does need a cleaning!

I believe the stone is from around 1929 if that helps.

It looks closer to a transitional to me. Agree, it really needs a good cleaning!

I was so happy to take clear close up pictures that I never thought to clean the ring first!

But just look at how clear the filth shows up!

Seriously now, can someone tell me what transitional means exactly?

I found this description on eragem:

"Transitional-cut diamonds typically bridge the gap between antique and vintage. Direct descendants of the Old European Cut, these progressive cuts saw an evolution toward a larger table, a lower crown, and a smaller culet than previous cuts. However, unlike later brilliants, the girdles of these stones remained unfaceted."

They are the transition between oec cutting and modern round cutting.

This post is super helpful about cuts and timeframes . It might be a "European" cut (not OLD euro). Though its filthy, it looks pretty colorless. Clean that puppy and post a thousand more pics!!!

Edit to add: looks like a couple of prong tips wore off. Careful!!

And post some straight on, up close shots.

This is my transitional. Yours seems older than mine. Mine is definitely more modern round brilliant than yours. vvvvvvvvvvvvvv1.jpgvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv3.jpg

That looks a lot like my OEC - which has a bigger table than the classic flavour of OEC and also has a shallower crown. It has the same petal pattern under the table though.
