The price difference from the 1.814 to the 1.874 is almost 2K. Is it mostly due to clarity? Is it worth it?
The price difference from the 1.814 to the 1.918 is $4,414. That seems very steep to me given that the size difference of .1ct is probably imperceptible to the eye right?
The information and certificates provided by GOG made it a little easier for me to see differences among stones so your help here is very much appreciated!!!!!

Especially when putting it in a halo. When you're talking a fraction of a millimeter vs. a nicer setting (or just not spending it), I'd go with one of the latter.

Brilliantly Engaged has two settings like you're describing, and an in-house 1.82 I, SI1 just a bit above budget (though you need to request the info- CALL if you're in a time crunch). This may be another all-together (stone+setting) vendor you may want to check out.

Thanks E B. I think enough people have mentioned to wait on the setting and let her choose with me that I will follow their advice. So focusing on the stone now. I will save the beautiful setting you sent to show her when the time is right though. Thanks!

Comparing the stone you shared with me to this one http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3143302.htm which is almost the same ct and specifications, which one would be better and why?
Whiteflash offers a bigger discount if doing wire transfer making their stone about $800 cheaper. Is it a good idea to do wire transfers?

Re: Please help a very confused husband pick an anniversary

Quick update.

I put the 1.814ct stone from whiteflash on hold until tomorrow. The lady I spoke with (very nice BTW) will ask a diamond expert to take a look at the stone and compare the "A cut above" stones that are slightly more expensive (the ones I can see inclusions on the table even on the non-zoomed in image (which is probably 30X magnified already) and one that is slightly smaller but is a VS2. they will get back to me to I may need some more help tomorrow. Please feel free to send additional recommendations for stones if you see anything interesting out there!

Thank you!

Sounds good! I recommended the diamond over at Brilliantly Engaged because they had settings that sounded like what your wife wants (and it's a lot easier to get both at the same place!), but I think it's a good idea to wait to see just what she wants.

Here's the stones you may be interested in all in one comparison.

An Expert Selection will be less expensive than an A Cut Above stone. They are a great value so I always consider them. Ask about inclusions because the photos are greatly magnified and it's often the case you will not be able to see them with your naked eye. Also ask what their definition of eye clean is, i.e., how many inches away is it that you can see the inclusions with your naked eye....6 inches, 8 inches, etc.

If an upgrade is ever in the cards, definitely go with WF as they have a very generous upgrade policy.

BE does have beautiful settings, so that's a consideration as well.

Also for size you want to look at the stone's dimensions not carat weight. You can have a poorly cut 2 carat stone that has the same dimensions of a nicely cut 1.8 carat stone.

For WF eye clean is 8-10 inches. Let's see what they get back to me regarding the stones. I asked them to compare three.

One thing I noticed is that the Expert Selection is not laser engraved. Is that a big deal?

Re: Please help a very confused husband pick an anniversary

So I talked to the diamond expert at WF and it turns out the stone I had selected is the one he recommends. He said it was visually identical to the 1.826 I SI1 A CUT ABOVE and that he liked these better than the 1.792 I VS2 A CUT ABOVE one. Looking at the images on the website one would think otherwise. I am really glad I called and had someone actually inspect the stones. Live and learn.

I am leaning to closing this deal, that is unless someone has another stone they think I should look at

And nice to see WF giving honest useful advice to the customer versus trying to sell the most expensive stone.

Re: Please help a very confused husband pick an anniversary

I think these stones (the 1.826 and 1.814) are very comparable. I like fatter arrows so I would go for the 1.826 but I am a cut nut  . The 1.814 is going to be a gorgeous stone and I think it's a great choice. You could ask about the color difference between the two as in, is one a "high I" or is one a "low I" and choose that way. But for very similar diamonds, the 1.814 is at a $619 price difference.

I have always paid by wire transfer or bank transfer as the discount is significant in my opinion. Will you be giving the diamond to your wife within the 30 day return period (just in case!)? Also, did they recommend a temporary setting so you can present it to her in a ring?

As far as the Expert Selection stones not being laser engraved, are they not engraved with the AGS number on the girdle?? I personally would want that for identification purposes and to note that you received the diamond you purchased. I would ask WF about it.

Excited for you, it's coming together!
