I happen to like different shapes and cut and whatever colored diamonds, and have been collecting them here and there, I've seen a crisscut over 7 years ago and have always thought of it in the back of my mind... I just so happen to find maybe one upon JA site.... GIA described it as a "Cut Cornered Rectangular Modified Brilliant" The crisscut diamonds I have seen has been notated in the additional information "CrissCut". However, I've been hesitant to buy for the premium upcharge... anyone want to confirm my finding that it "appears" as a non-branded crisscut please? or is this a "scissor" like cut? I'm not sure? Its on its way to me so excited!

1.79 K color VVS1 size is 8.13 x 5.98 x 4.17

JA's image...
The table on this is larger than the depth, but its a bit of a rare and unusual facet pattern.

Beautiful diamond! I guess there aren’t any notations for inscriptions? It kinda looks like one to me but I am no expert.

it was lumped into their "radiant" section, but you know how we go around calling a squared step cut an "asscher" even though its a "branded" term... but I need something short to be able to tell those who ask what kind of a cut and not a long explanation of why its not a "crisscut" but it IS KWIM?

yes
Possibly traded back into the trade and the inscription removed.
There is also a chance its a clone.

Looks like you found one! I had found a Victorian cut a few years back I didn't end up getting. Sometimes you get lucky on JA site. LOL

asscher has been used so much and not defended as a trademark that is is open to anyone to use.
"Royal Asscher" on the other hand is an active trademark.

oooh is this a victorian cut? image courtesy of google: its gorgeous! Yes, there was one time I found an OEC but at the time, I wasn't looking for one. The crisscut was one that I've always wanted one, and even had a few on my ebay watch list that I keep thinking I'll "commit" but always backed out

oooh, I love this! I've been oogling over the "unmentionable" criss-cuts. They are so pretty!

This also has a small culet, probably cant see the image... but

I'm ok with Clone :D since that means the premium markup is not there.
The more I think about it,its a very low volume stone so it is not a huge target for cloning.
But there is just no way to tell for sure other than someone checking the chrisscut database for those dimensions and color/clarity.

The GIA is fairly recent mid 2018. Could a cutting house reject it due to possible cutting parameters not meeting their "strict" specifications?

That does happen but its not common.
Most problems can be fixed.
What also happens is these stones belonged to a jeweler\wholesaler that goes under and the liquidator does not have permission to use the trademark so they just remove the inscription from the diamond and get a new report and pass it on.

I like it! Can't wait to see it!

Thanks DD! I'm excited to finally own one and on my finger! How's your project coming along?

Have you ever seen this cut in person before? I think its super interesting, but I have never seen a scissor cut. I love them in pictures.

I have my diamonds, just gathering inspiration images now :cool2:

wait...what there is this cut as well? off to google:mrgreen2:
Just posted videos in the fashion jewelry section (a vendor sent them). So pretty!!!!

Oooooo. I’ve seen cut corner scissors in gemstones, but not in a diamond. Browsing JA for unusual cuts (in fancy colors) is one of my favorite pastimes  you never know how they are going to categorize them, so sometimes it’s a surprise seeing them.

Came across these two stones last year that way. It’s always a surprise to find open culet stones on there.

Hahaha are you me?? I have the same hobby, except with all low color/brown stones.

So excited for you! My ashoka was under 0.50ct asschers. The Gia papers list ashoka in the comments section. Maybe a trademarked name is on your diamond’s cert. too?

Both of those make me wonder if @diagem sells a few stones via JA!

JA were offering 3 or 4 of these last year. They were just around the carat mark from recollection but not very eye clean in the videos. Enchanted were also offering a couple (possibly the same stones) and when I enquired about them they were clear that these were similar to crisscuts but not actual crisscuts.

Hope this helps =)2

That’s it exactly. The Criscuts or scissor cuts as people are calling them, have more going on under the table than the Victorian cut.

I've seen crusscuts at a local store a few times and they look a tad different to me (busier, more verical lines)... I think anyone could purchase this without feeling weird about it. I could be wrong or it could be the angle of the photo but this looks not quite the same to me.

Well whatever it is.. a mix? victorian/scissor with less facet seems very interesting to me. it is less busy facet pattern, its not anywhere this tinted as my phone makes it to be. but I like it, different! its off to DK to be set.
