Pearl Shape Diamond Testing for fake or real!

Dear All:
I learned that you can't read the words on a newspaper when you have a real diamond facing down on it. My mother bought a pearl shape diamond, and the diamond tester said it is real. However, we can read the words on a newspaper through the pearl shaped diamond. The results are contradicting. Would anyone please advise? Thank you!

I'm confused. Is a "pearl shaped" diamond a pear shaped diamond like a teardrop or a round shape diamond with a big crown like a round pearl? And if the stone is a badly cut one or an old fashioned Rose cut then yes you could possibly see through it. Maybe you should take a pic of it and post it....
