Hi all,

Im in the process of trying to find the right diamond to propose with. I am looking at a pear shape around the .9 ct to be set into a halo setting with a white gold plain band.

Didn't have much luck at local retailers (Australia) so I've been looking online to find a diamond that I can buy and then have set by a local jeweller.

The issue I'm having now is trying to compare diamonds against the different online retailers like bluenile, jamesallen and enchanteddiamomds. I'm a bit out of my depth at the moment.

I was hoping for a diamond in the D or E colour for under 7K AUD. I can stretch the budget a bit for the right rock.

I understand this community is a wealth of information and I have already learnt a fair bit about asets from reading past threads. Could anyone recommend a few diamonds that I should shortlist based on the above criteria?

Thanks,

SJ.

Pears are hard to pick...really hard. My theory is to try to pick ones where the rounded end looks as much like a round brilliant as possible (faceting wise)
so when the stone turns it has facets lighting up going down towards the pointed end. I could never pick a pear from a static photo. I have to have
videos. I went through JA and looked in your price range specs (went down to F to find more options). One did not stand out as a clear winner but I'll
post the ones that I thought looked decent (as in good).

A few I found at BN...they blast them with light so when they are blown up the mushy areas dont look so mushy but when you look at them in the compare
function when they are smaller...you can see that there is still mush down at the pointed ends (like most pears...like the ones on JA).

Pay attention to the lxW because they can vary widely for the same carat weight.

Garry Holloway has two jewelry stores in oz. he invented the hca and is on these boards.

I was recently searching for a stone with almost the same criteria for a halo e ring for a friend. Australia is terrible for diamond shopping and the pears sourced by the jewellers I saw were ... not great. Def not ps quality.

We ended up sourcing a different shaped stone due to the difficulties others have mentioned with the pear shape.

Pressed for time we did not follow up with Holloway diamonds afte the initial contact. They were happy to call some stones in but apparently none of their stones came with lab certifications?? This really spooked my friend and we moved on.

There was a nice pear on diamonds by Lauren I recommended him but overseas vendors were out.

The search for a fancy shape is much harder and longer than I imagined. I have not seen a decent one in a B & M store in Australia yet. Good luck!

Hard no on the second one, it’s not cut well and will be a dud. The first one looks promising

Sorry I should have been more clear. Both are the same diamond judging by the gia number. It's just the second link has the aset images and the first has a video.

Also both cuts are rated as being quite good but I'm no expert. So I would appreciate any info on how you arrived on your opinion about the cut.

@KKJohnson yeah that sucks actually. Perhaps ignore the "master cut" label @SJ28

Thanks guys. The search continues!

When I get to work later I can give the search a go.
