Hello,

I have been a long time lurker on this site, unfortunately for my husband!

Anyway, I am hoping I can get some advice from everyone on here.

We are both in our late twenties, married for just over three years. When we got engaged, we were both in school and finances were tight. My first engagement ring was a .20 carat round solitaire but we have been able to upgrade to a carat and princess cut...that was the perfect size on my finger and I am extremely happy with my diamond. Now onto the setting:

About 2 weeks ago, I changed the setting from a plain solitaire to a microwave setting. We picked it up last night and I fell in love with it. It is absolutely beautiful! I wore it on the drive home and took it off as soon as we got inside the house so I could tend to the baby. Once I have her down for the night, I go back and examine the rings and ooh and aah over it some more...only to notice that one tiny diamond is missing! Devastating.

I had the ring on for maybe half hour!! I called the company and they said that they would cover the charge of replacing the stone as long as we pay for tax/shipping! It seems unfair considering that I have been without my rings for 2 weeks and when I finally get them, only to discover a missing diamond! I know that pave settings are notorious for losing stones but surely not within the hour with me just sitting in the car!

I'm just venting! Ugh! We have to go in tonight to send it off for another 2 weeks and will probably have to pay shipping!

Micropave not microwave. Stupid autocorrect .

Hi, Fazilla! I would, as kindly as you can, request that shipping be covered by them. Losing a stone within a half hour is not wear and tear or anything that would warrant you covering any cost, IMHO.

Keep us posted please! :)

Where did you buy it from?

Thanks for responding!

We got it from Spence. We live in Canada so I'm not too sure if Spence exists in other places...

I just looked at their warranty and noticed that it mentions that they won't pay for shipping.

Can the jeweler just replace the stone without sending it back? My old setting lost a few stones and my jeweler just replaced them free of charge. I always had my ring back in a few hours. My jeweler keeps a stock of small pave diamonds on hand because these things happen.

That is totally unacceptable and I would not pay a dime, policy or not. Take it up to a manager/owner.
