Tilt

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

You can tell the greater the tilt by how much of the melee you can see from the side, so those two are different amounts of tilt. Which do you like better?

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Ok this is a HW one and I think I love this angle the most. Perhaps its similar to another ive posted but I just don't have the eye for it.

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Looks like a big tilt to me, based on how I can clearly see the melee flat from the side view. Oh and I find my cad without the logo.

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

I did a side by side, for fun. I think since you love my tilt and HW tilt, you definitely should bring this to your jeweler and ask for the change :)

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Thank you thank you!!! You have been so patient and helpful!!! I'll show this to my jeweler. You don't know what angle yours is do you?

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

I know on this journey, couldn't have done it without my jewelry friends:) I don't have a clue lol. I wonder if my husband can look it this and tell me-

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

His guess is around 45 degrees.

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Hi! Men are usually good at this! I'll send to my jeweler to see if they can work it out! I love your ring, it's dreamy as you say, and I would love to add marquise to each side of mine too but I have to draw the line somewhere hehe. I'm now hoping that I will feel a big change going from current to new stone. A different shape centre, not to mention a step cut after having a princess forever!! I want to feel I have an amazing rock on my finger....I still don't know if I'll do half pointers or 1 pointers...

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Hi! I think your ring will be dreamy because you are being careful and not making hasty decisions. Can you go try on more rings with both 1/2 and 1 pointers? Thanks for your kind words :)

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Another question I have. I'm not sure what style of pave I want. I want to see minimal metal (u or v cut???) I've attached my current rings side view for help as this is what I'm wanting my new ring to have (I realize my current ring isn't best quality).

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Let's hope Niel chines in here- she's a pave expert! Your current ring is lovely.

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Niel I need you!!!! Can your expert eyes help me please!! I need to determine angle, halo size (1pointers or 1/2pointers) and what style of pave? I want minimal metal when viewed from top just like Harry Winston and victers emylia. Do I need to factor angle of halo when considering pave size? For example, with an angle a one pointer will not have a great a face up dimension than a halo with no angle....

Oh gosh I'm no pave expert sadly, so I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask

Here's how Franky describes hers. If that's what you're after, I'd ask them for this (besides the mm size of the shank which I still say is too thin, and ignore the things that aren't applicable to you )

- 90% platinum with 10% iridium
- shallow u-cut pave (aka cutdown pave)
- 1.8mm uniform hand forged wire shank with single row pave, ending at 5 and 7 o'clock
- center diamond set at 7-7.25mm
- small donut at about 5mm in diameter, with pave
- curved wire struts with pave
- halo to tilt down at 25 degrees, minimal metal at the lip of the halo, so for the halo part this was achieve with hand forged PLATE (like a slab), not the WIRE shaped metal which is only possible if the halo is at 0 degrees tilt / leveled with no tilt.
- 1.5mm halo viewed from top down, so the actual width of the halo would be about 1.7mm if the halo would tilt at 25 degrees downwards (used trigonometry for this calculation!)
- diamond melee size on the halo must be absolutely uniform so that the halo is absolutely in the shape of a perfect circle. spaces between each melee diamond on the halo must also be uniform and not irregular
- absolutely no metal between center diamond and halo, absolutely no airline
- center diamond is set off-square so that the claw prongs would rest on the kite facets of the diamond and also point at the corners of the table exactly
- Victor used 0.75ctw in melee diamonds on the setting, F-G VS+

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Thank you Niel!! I think I'll follow this plan roughly. Any other input is most welcome! I'm definitely ruling 1.5 pointers out and will most likely go with 1 pointers due to tilt too.

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

I'm going to submit all final changes to the CAD then post the revised pic here for everyone's final input. Getting excited!

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Looking forward to the final cad. Will you do a wax ? (Or silver?)

Re: Paper Ring and CAD - would love opinions and suggestions

Lauren- def looking forward to the updated CADs! Given we have similar ring sizes and diamond dimensions this topic is incredibly helpful to me personally. Your ring is going to be gorgeous.
