I was an avid Pricescope reader about 10 years ago when my now DH and I were diamond shopping. Now I am back with an idea I am kicking around. I have reached a personal goal and want to reward myself with something sparkly! I have always wanted an oval diamond. I am thinking of a bezel-set solitaire necklace like the one shown in the attached photo.
I would like it to be on a 16" chain, my budget is up to $2k max (total for the piece including diamond and setting/chain).
Some questions:
I have rarely seen an oval in a bezel setting, is there a reason for that or is it simply that the ovals aren't as popular as rounds? Any comments on whether an oval shape in general is actually suited to this endeavor?
What metal would be preferred for daily wear? I am anticipating that this will become my most favored necklace, so would going for platinum be worth the investment over white gold?
Any recs for custom jewelry makers to contact on this item?
Last, but not least, please help me shop for stones so that I can see what my options might be. I lean more on the side of size over the other C's (and with a necklace I am not sure how important clarity would be, I assume I can go lower in clarity as it will be viewed from a distance? I would just like it to be sparkly and of course the bigger the better...heh). I love stones that have a blue fluorescence but that is not a requirement for this item (e.g. my e-ring is an I color with a strong blue fluorescence). I do understand that all ovals have bowties and will need to be inspected prior to purchase.
Any additional thoughts or advice are appreciated!
