Oval solitarie necklace - advice, please!

I was an avid Pricescope reader about 10 years ago when my now DH and I were diamond shopping. Now I am back with an idea I am kicking around. I have reached a personal goal and want to reward myself with something sparkly! I have always wanted an oval diamond. I am thinking of a bezel-set solitaire necklace like the one shown in the attached photo.

I would like it to be on a 16" chain, my budget is up to $2k max (total for the piece including diamond and setting/chain).

Some questions:

I have rarely seen an oval in a bezel setting, is there a reason for that or is it simply that the ovals aren't as popular as rounds? Any comments on whether an oval shape in general is actually suited to this endeavor?

What metal would be preferred for daily wear? I am anticipating that this will become my most favored necklace, so would going for platinum be worth the investment over white gold?

Any recs for custom jewelry makers to contact on this item?

Last, but not least, please help me shop for stones so that I can see what my options might be. I lean more on the side of size over the other C's (and with a necklace I am not sure how important clarity would be, I assume I can go lower in clarity as it will be viewed from a distance? I would just like it to be sparkly and of course the bigger the better...heh). I love stones that have a blue fluorescence but that is not a requirement for this item (e.g. my e-ring is an I color with a strong blue fluorescence). I do understand that all ovals have bowties and will need to be inspected prior to purchase.

Any additional thoughts or advice are appreciated!

Hopefully the experts will chime in here. I think your project looks incredibly interesting. I never thought of an oval bezel pendant. It could be marvellous! You will have to get the setting custom-made. Be aware that if you go with Brian Gavin, their bezels are wafer-thin, so much so that you can barely see them. If you want this look, then go to BGD, but the bezels of Whiteflash are medium in size - not overly thick, but in proportion to the piece and you can actually see the bezel. Just a heads-up.

I think it will be lovely! Just be aware that an oval might not sparkle quite as much as a round brilliant, or that it will be more challenging to find a really well-cut oval. That doesn't mean it can't be done, and if you put the legwork in, you will have a truly unique piece!

I hope someone who knows about oval cuts will contribute.

I would be tempted to set it EW rather than NS, or at least consider that. I think it's a neat idea, but I prefer ovals over all other shapes so I'm definitely biased. Am looking forward to what you get. It definitely won't look like any other necklace.

Bumping this up as I am gearing up to start my oval diamond search and hoping for some more input. I love the idea of setting the diamond EW!

Anyone want to help me search for the perfect oval for my project? I assume I can go lower in clarity with a necklace since I really just just want it to be eye clean from about 8 inches away. I want to keep it around 2k for the stone (I know I said 2k total got the entire necklace before but hey, why not stretch it?).

Bezeling reduced light that gets into a diamond. And ovals already don't perform as well as rounds. I think that's why you don't see as many. But a good performing oval should still be fine.

If have it set similar to the Barbara. If you have a back like that depending on how you string it, could be done n/s or e/w I'd bet. Your have to bring it up with BG or whoever makes it. But a back with open bars should allow you to mix it up.

Here's an oval I think would be nice for it.

You can reserve up to three of course. So I might all look at these

I'd imagine this should be eye clean enough for a pendant.

This has a little mushiness north and south of center but again could be fine in a pendent.

I'd even ask if JA could custom do you one that would allow you to wear it both ways. My ring is actually a custom JA. they show you cads, and are very reasonably priced.

The 0.6 f is still my favorite. I'd reserve that plus then other f and and the e vs1
