Hi there! First time poster :)

I've been lurking for a few weeks, trying to absorb as much information as possible. PS is a gem

As much as I've learned in the past few weeks, now that I've narrowed down what shape and size of diamond I like, getting into the finer details (like fluorescence, girdle etc) is making me confused. I seem to be running around in circles and could use a fresh pair of eyes on the two oval diamonds I'm considering for my E-ring. Any pros and cons you have would be great.

Thank you!

I would use GOG, but I would not necessarily buy the F VVS2. I think G VS would get you a larger stone for the money. Jonathan can call in a couple of good stones for you and make a video of all three to help you choose. It is so great to have him sort through and find the best stones. That is how Kaleigh bought her 2+ ct. oval a few years ago, and I just think that is the best way to be sure you are getting a superior cut stone.

I don't like either of those. With fancy shapes it's best to get GOG to source them for you, like DS says. Their in store fancy cuts are usually the 'rejects' they got in for other people. Both of those have strong bow ties.

I think this one has potential:

I'll look on JA some more and see if any others catch my eye. Budget is for a one carat at 6k or less and eyeclean (you do not need high clarity).

Thank you for the replies! I had to google 'bowtie'. So glad I asked for feedback - I didn't know bowties were another thing to look out for. I see fancy cuts are a different animal than going with a straight forward round. Very interesting.

The links you posted were great, it's helpful to have the comments with images - makes for easier comparison. I see GOG has different images like ASET, Diamxray - should I learn how to interpret these?

ASET yes.

Here are links that will help.

More red is what you want. Green is okay, but what you DO not want is a lot of white/black/blue.

Blue is okay for patterning (if there is a pattern) but other than that... too much means no light performance.

With ovals you want to see blending where there is a bow tie.
