Hi all,

I was wondering if you had any thoughts on these two diamonds:

Diamond #1:

ASET: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/image/medium/O180-0802Z8716_AST.jpg

Diamond #2:

ASET: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/image/medium/O171-735146Z13_AST.jpg

Personally, I kind of liked #1 better since I felt that #2 has too strong of a bow tie. But since I wasn't quite sure why the green and red in the ASET of #1 was so faint, I was worried that maybe the light performance on #1 wasn't as good. Also, I was unsure how visible the cloud would be on #1, especially since it is on the face of the diamond.

I would also love to hear any other suggestions if you have any. My budget for the diamond was originally 15k, but I think the setting I like will be less than I had originally budgeted, so I have a little bit of wiggle room (2k or so). I think she cares more about size than color / clarity, but I kind of wanted to stay in the colorless (D-F) range since I wanted to do a platinum setting and I also preferred a clarity in the VS range.

I appreciate your inputs; thanks!

I think the second one has a better performance by a LOT. And honestly it has a better shape, a nice small table (they both have this) and a high crown (both have this too).

It's a truly gorgeous stone. I would absolutely go for this one.

What is the setting design you are thinking of?

Hi Gypsy,

Thanks for your reply! That gives me some more confidence. (=

I was originally a little worried that the bow tie is too strong as the diamond is rotated, but it seems like most ovals will have some degree of this.

For the setting, she has hinted in the past that she really liked a single halo with a small band that had diamonds on the side (a basic halo design). I know she prefers a simple setting, as she also really likes the oval solitaire look (but has preference for the halo).

Originally I was going to try and do the setting at a local jeweler (I didn't have one in mind but was looking); however, the Pave Halo Diamond Engagement Ring from JA (link below) seems to match what she likes and I found that I was trying to find a setting at local jewelers that matched the one from JA. Unless I ended up getting a stone somewhere else, it seemed reasonable to do the whole ring with JA, especially since they have what she likes.

Do you have any recommendations, or know of any jewelers who are great at setting ovals?

Thanks again; I really appreciate your input!
