Hi Everyone,

I am stopped by the jewelers to pick up a ring and had to ask if they had any 3+ carat asschers. They showed me these two. I didn't take pics of the GIA certs. I am amazed at how different they can look even though in size and color and clarity are so close. Can you guess which is which? And which do you prefer and why? I think I like the one with more dark more.

F
VS1
3.26
Faint Fluor
Excellent, very good on GIA

G
VS1
3.19
No Fluor
Excellent, excellent on GIA

I don't even know enough to know what is important. I am going to read the tutorial again.image_834.jpg

Thanks!

I would need a ASET to chose and a couple better pics. But I'm feeling pretty comfortable discarding the dark one completely.

Anything else needs better pics and an ASET.

Assuming the dark one is really that different, I too would toss that one out. Too much light leakage.

Black =/= leakage, not unless its a black background.

Can't tell from that, really. I can rule them out visually if they aren't nice in shape, symmetry, etc. but would need close up photos. Both of those appear to have tiny corners and skinny windmills, so I tend to think I wouldn't like them. As others have said, an aset image is really necessary to be sure there is red and blue predominant.

I would be more wary about the 1st stone on top than the one at the bottom. Looking dark could be due to you/jeweler holding the camera too close to the diamond.

Shows you how little I know. I actually took a video but could not post it. But I chor the dark one because it looked more interesting than the lighter one. But think none of you would really like either. I am going to buy an Idealscope. Unfortunately I will not be getting an asset image be ause I am not serious about buying, at least not yet. I don't want to waste their time. I wanted to do a size compaison to my 2.59 MRB, and I can really see now why people say asschers face up small. for me to get the visual impact of upgrading from my stone to an asscher, I would need to go up to a 4 carat to justify the cost. Interesting stuff!!

The darker one actually has more potential than the other.
If you blow up the image you can see the other one has a ton of leakage.
The darker may or may not over react to obstruction.
It is impossible to accurately tell the degree of obstruction the camera is providing from the pic.

Arrows point to areas of leakage

bottom line is however there are better ones than these out there.
