Hello wonderful community,

Long time reader, first time poster. I have a few questions on a diamond that I purchased recently, and sorry if these have already been answered elsewhere. I've attached a PDF of the GIA report. I did see this in person, and it looked nice to my eye, but that could have just been the lighting. So my questions are:

The HCA tool noted excellent on brilliance and fire, but a "very good" on scintillation. Do the numbers indicate this would be the case (i.e. crown and pavilion angles or table/depth)?

I got this diamond in a halo setting with side pave diamonds halfway down the platinum band. I did a halo because I felt like in person the 0.8 carat looked a little small and since I couldn't afford a 1 carat, I wanted to maximize size as much as I could.

If I put an extra 1000 dollars towards the diamond, would it even be possible to get a a 1 carat (excellent/ideal cut)? I felt like 0.9 didn't really make a big difference visually, but then again that was when viewed in a halo setting.

Any and all opinions welcome! Thanks in advance.

I paid 2100 for diamond and 2500 for the setting. Total 4600.

So you are wondering whether you could get something significantly better if you paid 3100 for the diamond? My concern is that if you bought the diamond + halo setting, the setting might only accommodate a .8 (since usually halo settings are built around the stone itself).

Ah I see. Well firstly I'm thinking 2100 was a little cheap for that diamond, but since the total price was under my budget at the time I didn't really question it. But I guess I'm thinking along the lines of adjusting budget to about 5600-5800 total, then putting about 4000 towards a diamond and 1600-1800 towards a setting. But if 4000 wouldn't get me a 1 carat then I didn't think it was worth it. Hopefully that breakdown makes sense.

Makes total sense! Let me look around a bit.
