Hello. I'm in the process of helping my employer purchase an engagement ring for his girlfriend. His budget for both setting and diamond is $30-35k and we will be setting the diamond in Brian Gavin's Classic Tiffany Style Knife-Edge solitaire in platinum (http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/classic-tiffany-style-knife-edge-platinum-5336p) at a cost of $1350. Her ring size is 4.5. He would like to purchase a diamond as soon as possible, so working with a vendor to source a diamond to our specifications or waiting until more diamonds come on the market is not an option.
I am a long-time pricescope member and of course have strong opinions about vendors and diamond quality, but I would like your opinion/suggestions before I make my final recommendations. He would like the largest round diamond his budget can allow (they belong to a social circle where 2+ carat stones are the norm) and is also aiming for an ideal cut diamond, but is a bit hesitant about purchasing an I color given that even though an ideal-cut I is likely to make most girls thoroughly happy, I cannot guarantee his fiance-to-be is not color-sensitive enough to be bothered by a hint of warmth. What are are your recommendations? An H color would be a good compromise, but those are few and far between over 2 carats. G's in larger sizes are even more scarce.
In the meantime while I am investigating an array of diamonds, he has has asked my opinion on this 2.55 ct G VS1 Blue Nile stone, as an option with both higher color and larger size. A photo of the diamond provided by Blue Nile is below. It does have strong blue flour, which according to the BN sales rep is "not milky." It is also rated a GIA triple X, however it only scores a 2.4 on the HCA. Do you think this stone is a good choice for him? He doesn't know how his girlfriend feels about fluorescence in a diamond--his purchase will be a surprise--but he suspects that she is not especially knowledgeable or opinionated about diamonds in general and has clean, classic taste. Here are the details on the blue nile stone:

Thanks so much for all your help! I feel a lot of responsibility to offer him the best possible advice since I am helping choose for someone else and not myself.
