Hello Fellow PS’rs- I hope this finds you and all of your loved ones healthy & safe during this difficult time. So grateful to have a distraction and always love seeing everyone’s posts. As some may know, I recently upgraded to a 4ct EC and had it set in a micro halo. Recently, I noticed the band has bent. It is platinum and approx a 1.7mm shank. Thin I know.... however I have a 1.5mm diamond eternity band which I wear with it every single day (that has remained perfectly in tact). Adam (OWD) said he can repair it, however, now I am thinking I should have it reset in something more sturdy. I’m so afraid that if the band can bend- perhaps I can potentially lose my stone? I’m attaching photos for you to see. I also recently saw this halo I am now obsessed with. Originally, I was contemplating a similar setting with sapphires. What are your thoughts on the current setting and on this potential new one? I would probably copy the emerald halo (I love the longer cuts in the halo but would most likely do a royal blue sapphire halo) although the green is to die for. I’ll attach photos of these as well. Thank you as always for all your advice and help. 95408753-5F65-4CDA-93FE-A7CE74318E5A.jpegE7704450-61BD-4DBC-B849-3B72BB218572.jpeg7AE5902C-6F74-411B-BBE0-AB75B5CA16BA.jpegEEF7B1D7-394B-40F5-B0E4-907BBFB45DA3.jpegFD892D9A-2499-45E1-8876-2D73EEB65361.jpeg9E024E4E-8F9D-4FDC-AC21-44277CD96456.jpeg

Personal preferences and all that...

IMHO, the existing setting with the micro paved halo is very nice as it frames the gorgeous main stone beautifully.

However, it would only work with a thin paved band, otherwise the delicate look would be lost.

Since the OP could be heavy on her hands that resulted in the existing band being bent, I would suggest resetting in a style that could accommodate a thicker and sturdier band, with less paved stones or just one trap on each side as can be seen in the pic of the halo with Sapphire.

Speaking as someone who would bezel everything except perhaps for the very small stones, I natually favour the halo settings with CS.

I would opt for a Blue or Deep Pink Sapphire or Ruby or Spinel halo as they are more durable than Emerald.

I have also seen similar rings with a diamond step cut halo, however, I prefer the contrasting look of a CS halo as seen in the pics posted.

An black halo using French cut black diamonds would also be nice IMHO.

Good luck with your resetting project!

DK :))

Gosh yes a coloured stone, French cut halo would make that gorgeous huge centre pop!
Alternatively could you reshank your current lovely ring with a plain shank of a similar width to the current one but not pierced throughout for pave? I’d suggest a rich deep YG for contrast but you could do platinum to match the rest of your set. You could do pave shoulders too if you wanted to keep the look of the pave from the top.

I would only go with CS halo, if I wore that particular color all the time. That’s just me. For something I wear all day, every day, the more neutral, the better.

I’d like to throw out the idea of argyle pink stones in the halo, in a more sturdy setting, with 2 tapered baguettes on the sides, similar to what you posted above, with the blue sapphire halo ring.
I have seen the pink argyle stones, they are just a hint of color, and add slight separation between white diamonds and halo in such a beautiful way. It’s very lovely, and they are very interesting.

I def believe that shank needs to be thicker, and slightly more substantial for your peace of mind, and protection of that gorgeous EC. Adding the tapered baguettes would be an additional treat! :cool2:

I just love @Scandinavian’s reset!!!

Well, I’m biased because I’m equally obsessed with that emerald halo. Obviously, I’m a CS girl but I think your emerald cut diamond would look amazing with a bright sapphire halo.

Alternatively, if you wanted to stick with a more delicate diamond halo, you could do a slightly wider shank. Maybe one the tapers smaller as it comes up (like an Erika Winters setting).

@dk168 @foxinsox @Matthews1127 Thank you so much for all your input and the pink sapphire photo! I see your point on “neutral” and my family is all out voting me on changing it. Lol. However- it was always my first choice but did not do it bc of my husband’s opinion and the cost. I did get an estimate from CVB and (am I allowed to quote prices)? $4500 I did ask if that included the baguettes and she hasn’t responded to that. I don’t think it does. Anyone else have any suggestions of who would do the detail of the emerald one but with rich blue sapphires? The sapphire one above is by Estate Diamonds and is a bit more chunky IMO plus they only do settings with their own diamonds. I don’t think I want to spend that for another halo. I am concerned about the sturdiness of my ring though. I’m really not heavy on my hands at all (my children are all older) thus why I’m so concerned. I had read the thinner shank could be a problem but I didn’t really think it would apply to me. Haha. Open for suggestions on places for quotes. Thanks as always. Truly appreciate and value all of your input.

@dk168 @foxinsox @Matthews1127 oops. It was $4800 (and I do not think that included the baguettes on shank)

Thx @elle_71125 I know. Should I do it :-o Lol. CVB quote is $4800. Anywhere else to get a quote?

I could justify spending 4.8k USD on a reset if it is in Platinum and includes the baguettes in the shank myself, as the stones for the halo would need to be cut specifically to fit and can't be bought off the shelf, IMHO.

DK :))

Do it. Do it. Do it...:evil2:

CvB would do a great job. Her attention to detail is beyond IMO. You can also try David Klass for a quote. I'm working on a CS halo with him right now.

The cost is a little higher, based on the stones having to be custom cut. But if you have the funds...so worth it.

I love the idea of the tapered baguettes, but if it’s too costly, hold off.
Right now, the main concern is finding a new, sturdy foundation for that beautiful EC.

Yes. I so want the tapered baguettes but I remember Adam saying for a setting w them (no halo) was about $3k!!! I thought that was high but what do I know! Therefore- I was thinking it was not included I did show her the photo as a reference. I’m just concerned she never answered me back again. She answered right away initially and I wrote back asking and never heard again.... so it made me a bit weary to go w her. Maybe she’s really busy.

Her things are so beautiful! I asked a follow up question and never heard back. Therefore- was second guessing. It’s a lot of money and I would need to know they will be a good communicator.

I agree. I just don’t want to pay again down the road if I need to change it now. I guess I could do small diamonds down the shank. Simple and would def go and be no additional cost per se

Any other suggestions? I know you mentioned DK- I just don’t want to spend potentially more than that quote.

DK is generally more affordable, which is one of the reasons I like working with him. I'd consider reaching out.

I have only worked with DK and CvB so I can't recommend anyone else.

Okay- Thank you. I thought you said he was more expensive. What are you doing with him for your project?

I'm sorry. I must not have explained that well. I meant that any project with a colored stone halo is usually more expensive than your standard diamond halo because it requires custom cut stones. That applies to any vendor. This is my most expensive project with DK to date..all because of those custom cut stones.

Give me a second and I'll link in my thread....OK, here it is. I went through a lot in the first pages just trying to decide what I wanted. I linked you 5 pages in so you could see the actual setting I picked.

If you liked working with Adam and his communication, he does (or used to) work closely with CVB and some of her product line. I don’t know if that would also be applicable to a complete custom job.
I love the colored halos, but echo you’ve got to not be concerned about color matching to your daily wardrobe for an ER.
Maybe colored stone stackers to wear with?
( think of the options you could get, with your budget difference between fixed ring vs whole new design.)
Then I vote for a fix thru Adam with a plain shank, if you truly love the rest of the ring. What platinum alloy is the er now? I forget what the choices are and the trade offs. Maybe 2mm at bottom of shank and taper up to 1.7 as suggested earlier.

@Rfisher Thanks so much. I don’t think I’ll like the look of a 2mm shank w a 1.4mm (which is tucked under some, so prob appears to look more of a 1.2mm) and for some reason I’m not a fan of the tapering shank. I had that last time and I just didn’t love it. I do love my setting but I do think it needs to be sturdier.

Wow! @elle_71125 ! Stunning! I had gone back to see your threads and saw you also loved Knox jewelers halo that I had posted. Great minds think alike. I love your attention to detail and I’m the same and feel like Adam thought I was way too picky (he told me so ) which annoyed me, as I spent over my budget in my stone and knew I was worried about getting the halo just right. Therefore- I dk t want to feel like I’m annoying anyone when spending what I personally find to be a good amount. I cannot wait to see your setting. PS I LOVE your stone!!! Absolutely gorgeous. Also- how is your communication w DK- do you think he gets annoyed w any changes etc? Thank you again for your help.

Thank you!

I've always had the best experience with DK. On this ring alone, I've already gone through quite a few CADs and not at any point have they made me feel like a bother or like I'm too picky. In fact, I just received an email from Amy inviting me to call her to go over details, after I get my next CAD, just to make sure they are understanding what I want.

I would be very put off by having someone I'm paying for a project tell me I'm too picky (especially if I had purchased that gorgeous diamond from them).

@Emeraldcutlover Beautiful stone! I had DK make me a Sapphire target ring couple years ago. He was wonderful to work with and his price was very reasonable. I will say, for me, the ring turned out to be too much presence for my comfort zone. Also, echo the point of bringing in a color as far as wardrobe goes. In addition, I felt the blues darked out a bit more than I liked. BUT I still love target rings. Check out Hoda Kotb’s ring. Stunnnning!

Yes - I also sent him 2 buyers in addition. Okay- I’ll reach out to him. Thank you so so much.

@Slick1 I LOVE her ring. It looks just like what I posted. Yours is beautiful! DK did that? Do you have profile shots? The sapphires are a beautiful blue! Are they darker in person? I have a princess do type ring (quite large) and I have to say it may be my favorite of all my jewelry. I love my EC - I just think I maybe always wanted the halo like Hoda’s. I figured I can keep the current one (have fixed) and if I changed my mind later down the road- I’ll still have it.

DK did do that!! And I do believe it would be much less than CvB. It is gorgeous but, yes, in my experience all of my blue sapphire rings (and I love blue sapphires) go dark in certain lighting. Bothers the heck out of me.
Here are more pics. I do not have have one just the gallery. I can’t link my thread...Post #50

In my experience, DK has had better pricing and communication along with equal quality to CvB, although I would consider her forte to be more delicate settings. He was faster too.

I tried on this 6 CT yellow, unusual-cut diamond with an emerald halo at an antique show and fell in love with this look, so I vote for that!

This is one of my all time favorite EC rings, done by DK.
I believe this is a PSer’s ring...

OMG! I’m not always a fan of halos but this setting is beyond gorgeous! I also love the depth of the blue how it doesn’t take away from the center stone, but accentuates it. Everything flows beautifully with this piece. This is my fav! I’m going to pin this for later inspiration. :)
