Hi there,

First time poster! I'm in the market for a princess cut diamond for my soon to be wife. I am very much interested in a diamond which is local to me. It is a princess cut 2.06 ct. VS2 clarity. E color. Depth 73% and Table 69%. It is priced around $18,000 USD. In addition, there is another diamond which is on the west coast; it is a 2.02 ct with exact cut/clarity/color. I requested ASET images for both diamonds the following was provided. Could the forum experts comment on the ASET images? Thank you for all the help, I sincerely appreciate it!

Thanks for the quick reply!! Since I am a complete noob and want to clarify, would it be safe to say that the 2.02 ct is ideal/best and could have more "sparkle/fire" compared to the 2.06 ct diamond?

I'd wager that the 2.06 is the better diamond. It has fewer white (leakage) areas. Hopefully a princess/ASET expert can chime in

I am not a princess ASET expert, but I have seen enough of them to know most likely both of these diamonds will be incredibly sparkly. Each will have a slightly different flavor due to the cutting, but both are going to be much more attractive than the majority of princess cuts that I have seen with ASET images.

If it is at all possible, I would recommend arranging to see both diamonds side by side to see which speaks loudest to YOUR eyes.

To my eyes, I prefer the first one - rather than being all red in the centre, it has a mix of red, green and blue - this will mean it has a good contrast pattern that is interesting to look at (if I understand it correctly) and the darker areas of contrast will increase the perceived brightness of the areas returning light (again, if I understand it correctly) :))

Some light reading:

How many chevrons does each princess stone have? 2, 3 or 4?

Just tossing this out there. Super ideal princess cut 3 chevron 1.93ct G SI1 (eye clean). $18k. Dropping a little in color but picking up (probably) a much better upgrade program, AGS000 cert and cut grade will be ideal.
