Today we went to look at settings, and had a retailer who sells Singlestone bring in some to show us. I'll start with something that was a nice compliment to all of you OEC prosumers. Doesn't pertain to me, but it gave me a smile. I mentioned pricescope to the salesgirl, and asked if she'd heard of it. She responded sort of, Ari mentioned that you will know more about diamonds than I ever will. I just laughed and said not me.

Anyway in my last thread, I discussed "J" being too tinted, and 1.66 ct being perhaps a bit too big for SO ... we still haven't really settled on a diamond yet.

One of the settings we looked at today was not one I even anticipated considering, they just happened to have it in stock so we looked at it. Turns out, we both liked it. And, it was set with a 2.23 ct N/O color OEC (EGL USA cert).

The color did not bother me. And the size did not bother SO. Surprising on both points. What I did like about this diamond was how I could really see the facets. That was missing in all the other diamonds I looked at, except perhaps a 1.26 AVR with a big table. Anyway, this was by far the biggest I'd considered. I guess obvious facets is just a benefit of size.

Although it was tempting to just call it a day and buy this pretty one (esp as they were having 25% off), the last thing I wanted was to buy an underperformer. Fortunately I know my limitations here, and hope that some experts will chime in. Looking at these pictures, I notice 2 things. One, the edges are not super crisp the way the diamonds I looked at earlier were.

And two, under the table doesn't look right, as I see it in that first picture. I also noticed when I looked at the diamond with a loop that I could see skin under some facets. Don't know if that's to be expected with these old cuts, or if that's a bad sign.

It looks a bit green in some of these pics, but so does my sweater in some I've not posted. That wasn't actually the case. Let me say I really did like it and it looked gorgeous, or I wouldn't be considering it. Opinions really appreciated here, if we pull the trigger it will likely be tomorrow. Thank you in advance.

I can't contribute on the cut since I'm no OEC expert but I've personally experienced EGL USA being 4 color grades lower than its stated grade.

I'm not a fan, sorry. It looks really dark because of those huge arrows, and tinted too. :( I think you will find something much better.

Yes, after sleeping on it I'm not getting it. Thanks for the feedback.

Good call. Way too dark in the center and the stone is a murky color not the nice lower yellow shades.

+1
Couldn't agree more.

Was the center that dark in person? It might have been a bad photo but based off that one it is extremely dark so I would pass.

I didn't think so, but every close up came out that way. No matter, I left it in the jewelry store for someone else to love. Won't be me. Thanks all!
