I have a 1.4 Carat SI1 G colour triple X GIA

Depth 62.9

Table 57

Crown Angle 34

Pavillion Angle 41.8

What kind of light return can I expect from this diamond with a HCA score of 6? which is fair. I bought it loose so don't know how the light return will look on the band if it will make a difference. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated thanks.

34/41.8 will not have good light return.
It will be very very leaky. No photo needed. 100%

When did you buy it?

Can you return it for either a refund or another stone?

Actual light return can also be affected by the clarity characteristics, independent of cut factors. The Si category is broad and can contain inclusion types that impact transparency to varying extent.

If you post the GIA report number you will get more specific feedbacks.

I bought it about a month ago and was told I can upgrade at no cost and pay the difference.

So now I went with a 1.6 Carat G colour Triple X GIA

Depth 59.3 %
Table 60 %
Crown Angle 32 °
Pavillion Angle 40.8 °
HCA score is 1.6 alot better

Sigh. Why bother asking for help at all?
HCA isn’t all there is to it, but hey, as long as you’re happy with what you’ve chosen.

What kind of light return can I expect....snip

Remember- the maximum possible light return is achieved with .....a mirror......

Please have a little patience with all of us.
Many people ask the same questions, sometimes responses can be ...terse. But everyone posting wants to assist.

I have a pet peeve with discussions of light return.
As noted, max light return is not what we want in a diamond.
The correct balance of brightness, contrast and scintillation is what the "best" light return is.
Given that much of this is personal preference, there's really no "best" that works for everyone.

I think what yssie meant was that it can be counterproductive to get slated on the forum for poor light return after its past your return period. People can often leave far less content with their choice than before.

Thanks for your reply, I was able to return the first diamond I got and upgrade it to a bigger one with different specs which I hope are more desirable.

HCA <2 indicates the angles of Crown and Pavilion are very likely to work well together.

59% table + 60% depth + 32degree crown = a 60/60 stone that will tend to give more white light return than coloured fire.

You've already been told that you'll need to post the GIA report number before you can get specific feedback. So do that.

the capticha on GIA's site will not let me past. Anyone else have that problem?

Ok for me. I got the cert here

Not an expert but table looks big and I’ll be concerned re how eye clean it is and whether the medium fluor causes haziness.

The report is a few years old indicating it might be a pre-owned diamond. It will be a good idea to have it inspected by a qualified third party to insure it is in original condition. At the same time that expert can assess the stone for any transparency deficits that might be present due to the grade setting twinning wisps plotted and additional surface graining and twinning wisps noted in comments.
