An 8-main square cushion brilliant, E, VVS2. Ok with square? 7.7x7.7. If you like the specs, it may be worth having whichever vendor you want to use call it in to take a look:

I love that stone, but again to be picky it's under weight. If it was 2.5 or so I might go for it, but since it's less and it's square I would rather not.

How often do new stones show up on the market?

Now that you're narrowing down what you like (and since you know the size and color you're after) have you asked any of the suggested vendors to source a stone for you? They will have access to many stones you won't see posted or online.

I had a long discussion with Mark at brilliantly engaged. He was great so far. He mentioned that a lot of stones are overseas at a show in Hong Kong right now but was going to try to present some to me in a couple weeks.

I also contacted a few other folks mentioned on this forum but when you apply the criteria that I have, few have even a single stone that meets the discription.

From looking at that 101 cushion post though I feel that the 8 facet cut might be my best bet. It is sort of in between the chunky and small facet look. Do folks agree that it's a less risky pick (as in more people find it appealing) than the antique or old mine cuts?

Gypsy,

You are a wealth of knowledge. I've reviewed the posts you suggested and am now a bit more knowledgeable. I am inclined to find the best eye clean F cushion I can.

I think I might need to go to 2.5 carats or so to get what I want do to limited supply in the 2.5+ range, and high costs. This would like bring my size closer to 7.75mm. I'm also willing to sacrifice on the rectangular shape requirement.

The other thing I can do is step down to a G SI1 (eye clean) and get something closer to 3 carats, i'm okay to do this, but only if the G is white looking (I've seen some that are quite yellow), and only if the SI1 is truly eye clean.

A GIA G should NOT be yellow in the slightest.

I am more picky than most on color.

I said this same thing to a jeweler and although he doubted it, I was able to tell when the stones were below F in color. Maybe the two G diamonds I saw were more colored than most, but they were both GIA rated G.

I actually saw this 3.16 ct stone in person. Or at least I think I did. To be honest it didn't look ideal under the ASET, but I'm also a novice and it was at the start of my search and education. Can anyone comment on the cutting structure, it looks like 8 facet, but then there are some additional cuts in the center.

Gypsy what are your thoughts on this stone?

Gypsy,

Just so I have a better opportunity to learn from you, what about that stone is off putting. For me it was primarily that the it didn't meet my criteria for clarity and color, and from my memory was mediocre in ASET performance. From reading your other posts and to use some PS terminology this stone does seems a bit mushy in some areas.

Anyone else see a potential winner on the online market?

I fully appreciate your input. I was just trying to better understand why it isn't ideal, I can tell that it appears a little flat in regards to light performance.

I would never have imagined that finding a stone in the 2.5-3ct range would be so difficult. I understand why so many folks go with a RB, proper cushions are indeed very hard to source. Although I could go with a custom cut AVC, I think I would rather just get something sooner. No point in making my gf wait much longer.

Admittedly I'm no expert on modern cushions but this could be an option - 3.01ct G-VS2 - $36,140. Not sure about the inclusions though:

Have you decided on antique vs. modern cut cushions? In this size, with your color and clarity requirements, you may have a wait a while for *the one* to turn up. I wouldn't recommend a custom AVC if you can't exchange it though. On the off chance that your fiancee doesn't like that cut, you'd be stuck.

Anything wrong with this?eta, I know original post says 2.7, but your last one says 2.5, and I think the .2 difference is really minimal in the long run, if everything else fits

I'm not sure what setting she is after, but last I checked you could ask ja to get danhov. Either of these could be purchased on platinum and within your max 40 k budget
