Old cut round vs modern rounds

Do you think some people think older cut rounds are fake? The cut can be so different from modern cuts.

Actually, before PS a girl at work got a fairly large round stone that was not a RB.
I did not think it was fake. Now, since PS, I know it was an old cut stone.

I'm pretty sure most ppl think my diamond is fake but it is probably because of the size. Also I have noticed sometimes because it is an older cut ppl automatically assume it was cheaper.

I wonder, can "laypeople" people actually tell the difference between a 1-2ct MRB and OEC? Maybe they can see the color difference in older stones, but faceting? I'd be surprised, tbh... curious!

I showed a larger OEC I have to some people in a jewellers yesterday and the girl that works in the jewellers first reaction was holy bleep thats a big stone. Then she looked at it carefully and said its a weird cut then she looked again and said oh it has some colour to it too...
I was standing there with an amused look on my face. Most people have no idea what they are seeing. At least she knew it was a diamond...

When I bought my first few old cuts, I was actually worried that they might be fake because they are SO. DANG. SPARKLY. Like ridiculously more so than any other diamonds I had seen. The way they are cut gives off big flashes that you just don't see as often in MRB and that's what I love about mine!

If you are talking about older cuts like the big-table-shallow-crown-angle diamonds of the '50s - '70s that were cut for weight or for brilliance: Yes, maybe. If it's all table, like >65%, it's not going to look anything like a modern H&A that most PS people would recommend. And there are a lot of "older" large diamonds out there that are cut for weight, not performance, so yes, they probably look suspect.

And if you meant OMC & OEC, diamond simulants have been cut in those styles and in colors other than colorless, for at least as long as PS has existed. If you go 'way back in the PS old posts, simulants were even discussed here. Many people who had large diamonds also had a simulant "travel ring" made.

My engagement ring is either a transitional/early modern brilliant (according to pricescope, lol), and my sister says it looks like a rhinestone, the way it is cut.

I think there are millions more fake round brilliants out there than fake old cuts. So that would never cross my mind. I would think old cuts are far more likely to be real diamonds.
