I am on the IDJ site and I noticed a bunch of less expensive 2 caret range stones without a certificate. Would it be a consideration to by one of these since it is a reputable store? Why do they even have this option, does it really cost that much to get it certified, would love a better understanding. Thanks!!!

It's rarely to the buyers advantage to buy an uncertified stone. The stone can be priced as a grade higher than it really is, for example, and the jeweler makes more profit. That's the only reason not to pay for the grading (unless the stone is very small). I might buy stones under a half carat ungraded if I was confident about my own evaluation skills, but definitely not for a significant purchase. They can send the stone for grading and it doesn't cost much.

Thanks, can someone explain why reputable jewelers like IDJ even carry uncertified stones if there are a rip off?

IMHO un-certed stones from people like IDJ aren't usually a "rip off", but they are from untrusted vendors. The thing about vendors like IDJ is that they've been in the business for a long time, and have built trust by being reputable and doing accurate "guesstimate" grading for un-certed stones. DBL does this as well with unusual shapes and/or colors. So there's always a little bit of risk with not having a certificate, especially if you ever want to re-sell it, but I would trust IDJ if you want a quality stone for a great price (granted it's not going to be a branded 'super ideal').
