Hey all,

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct area but I just ordered a ring to be made and I'm super excited.
I inherited a stone from my father (2.9 carat transparent yellow scapolite in oval cut) and I'm having it placed in a platinum setting with a diamond halo and diamonds halfway down the band (just like the attached picture).

I know Scapolites are a 5-6 on the Moh's scale (not the exactly the hardest stone), but I'm pretty good with my rings/jewelry. I never wear them while doing chores (e.g. cleaning, cooking, etc.). I don't even shower with jewelry. I only ever wear jewelry when I'm out at social gatherings with friends, vacation, or something - so I imagine the Scapolite should hold up well?

I gave the scapolite to the jeweler already, however I have another loose stone (orthoclase) that looks very very similar in color to the scapolite and it is the same cut (nice oval) so it gives an idea of what the scapolite looks like. IMG_2453.jpg

Should be pretty! Post pictures when it's done (in the SMTB - Show Me The Bling forum).

Will definitely do that! I tried searching for scapolite rings and I don't see many. It doesn't sound like a very common gem stone. Sure is pretty tho.

I am not familiar with this stone. I can't wait to see your finished piece.
