"Kevin and babies." :lol::lol::lol::lol:

So the chicks are white leghorns. They will grow up to look like this:

White-Leghorn-Chickens-Pictures-3.jpg

I guess they are terrific egg layers, can fly very well (I have already seen this,) and they can be flighty. (I literally bought the only day old chicks they had so Kevin wouldn't die. I would say she had like one more week to live in her condition) White leghorns wouldn't have been my first choice, but I felt the best option was to get newly hatched so they wouldn't reject her or she them. And not to brag, but I was totally right. LOL!

They now eat out of my hand because Kevin loves treats and she's taught the littles to love them too. Once they get a little older and get some more freedom, we can start naming them. But right now we just count to make sure there are still 6. The big chickens are terrified of them because they are so flighty and skittish. Kevin also attacks anyone who comes near, so they are like little royalty and do what they please.

Their little personalities will show themselves soon and they will get names:)

For reference, Kevin is a buff orpington- this is what she looks like when she's NOT in molt. ALL of my buffs are molting right now. I have one I call "graveyard chicken." She looks like a corpse. So bad the rooster won't even go NEAR her.

This thread deserves a bump.

I wonder if other chickens notice that the babies look nothing like Kevin.

They are little monsters! They peck my feet for treats. :lol: They are getting big, roosting now, and are all feathered out for the cold weather.

She has been such a good Mama. How is she going to be when they are grown and wanting to go on their own? Or, will they always want to
hang out with her?

Once they are grown, they just become part of the flock. Subject to the same pecking order. I'm not really sure if they will stay together as a family unit? Goldie is now broody. :???::???: And no, she's not getting babies. :lol::lol::lol:

So I haven't got any eggs for a week!! I followed those free-loading slackers all over the neighborhood today to see if I could find a nest. Nothing. Going to get them some new feed and see if that helps....

They are so fun to watch. Every once in a while, Brahma will come up to me and peck my leg for treats. Or to say "what the hell are you doing hanging around here? Go home." :lol:

I am loving the new pictures, especially the one where it looks like Brian is sitting on a chick. It would be great for a caption contest, lol! This whole story is so inspiring. Just to "return the favor", I found a few amazing stories on You Tube. (I hope it's not breaking any rules to post from You Tube)
