I think you should definitely NOT get your aunts ring but that you should probably return the one he got you with a view to getting something you both can love. He needs to realise that if you don''t love it now, it''s probably not going to grow on you in the future and therefore he will be up for costly upgrades somewhere down the track, eventually ending up with what you love in the first place and by then he will probably be tired of the whole thing and more or less say "whatever". That''s just my opinion, but where you have different tastes I honestly think you should choose together so that you are both making the compromise. Perhaps a similar style ring as far as detail goes, but a different shaped stone that you feel is more "you". It doesn''t sound to me as though you will really be happy with your aunts as it''s not what you''ve always wanted, so why should she lose out on the deal as well as both of you ... that''s my thoughts. PS I ran out of steam to read pages 2-4.5 so apologies if my response is no longer relevant, however I like your analagy of the watch you are buying for him. Hopefully you have reached a decision by now and steered clear of the storm ahead ...
