I saw this on GOG and bought it, thinking it seemed like a good price as a complete three stone ring. I've been wanting an ideal cut for a while, and I love Brian Gavin's signature cuts. So I have the ring, and I have some reservations and need some input from the lovely PS community.
First off, I love the center diamond. Truly. It is a K, and I love it. The cut is fantastic and I th
Think I am spoiled forever.

What I am having reservations about is the look of the pear sides on this ring, on my hand. And I feel bad for not loving the whole ring, because it is clear that someone put alot of thought into designing this ring, and everything about it is so well done.

I have

personally, I think it's BEAUTIFUL.... but I am a sucker for a H&A with pear sides. Someday I will get one for a RHR. I think it looks lovely on your hand but of course what matters is that YOU love it.

My phone is freezing up and I almost lost the whole post. Do my question is, If I love the center diamond, but not the rest off the ring, is it stupid to keep it, given what I paid, and reset the center into a solitaire? Or am I better off returning it, and starting over. Not sure I can get as good of a price as I did with this ring ($4450), and still hit the 1ct mark in an ideal cut.

I welcome all advice :-)

I think you could easily get a 1 ct K for 4500

I would dip it white or reset in white gold . Stones are beautiful

canukgal, you touched on something; that I have had three stone rings, and I do like them. I have never been able to afford a large diamond, and the threes stone has given a bigger look. But now I am am ready for something new. My first e ring is a platinum three stone with all rounds. I love it because it is my wedding ring, but it is .50 (5mm) and i want a bigger diamond. The Truth x 3 that I have is beautiful, and I wear it alot. But I have been wanting an ideal cut diamond, and so I thought to let the Truth 3 stone go.

I fell for the center of this three stone for the size (6.4 mm) and cut of the center stone. I like three stones, and this one looked beautiful. It had a quality setting, and well matched pears. However with this ring, the pears seem to point straight out to the side, which is throwing me off for some reason. And maybe I am not in love with the whole ring as it is because it is alot like all of the rings I already have. Now that I have the ring, and the center stone is the size I have wanted for a long time, all I want is the center to wear as a solitaire.

But I hate to break up a ring that has had this much thought put into it. Someone loved this ring and designed it with lots of care.

I am still in the return window, and have contacted GOG, but before I send it back I am asking whether I am better off to set the center stone of this ring and sell the Three stone setting with the pears, or look for another 1ct center and start from scratch with one of the PS vendors like WF, BGD, or GOG.

All of the I-K diamonds I found today at the above vendors were at minimum $5600 for a 6.2-6.4mm ideal AGS0 for the diamond alone. If I go this route, it seems that I am spending close to $6300-7000 for a diamond with a fairly simple solitaire setting.

Whereas if I sell the Three stone setting it might offset the cost of the solitaire setting, bringing the total cost of the ring to near the 4500 I paid for the Three stone.

I am looking for and ideal cut, hearts and arrows, color no lower than a K (J if possible) , eye clean, and at minimum 6.25mm, preferable bigger. I only want to buy from a place with an upgrade policy from now on. I would like to set it in a setting like this:

Budgetwise, If I start over I will have to save more than I have spent on this 3 stone with pears.

HI:

Yes, the ring is beautiful and beautifully made, but it is isn't exactly what you want.

That said, do you think a solitaire will help you achieve finger coverage--since that is what a 3 stone ring provides. Have you tried on single stone rings at shops close to you to get a feel for the desired mm size? Are you planning to wear the solitaire with a diamond band, or with your original ER?

Would a larger stone in a halo be interesting to you? Or if you were to buy this ring, could you reset the centre diamond and then eventually get a colored stone for the pear setting?

cheers--Sharon

I haven't tried on many solitaires. I think I will do that. I have always wanted a 1ct, since it is a classic size. Most of my social circle has around 1ct, with a few bigger than that. I think I will pay a visit to the local consignment jeweler that I use for repairs. Less pressure, and he has a ton of rings to try on.

Also, my budget doesn't support a larger than 1ct at this time. Maybe in the future I can upgrade again. That is one reason that an upgrade policy is a bonus if I return this ring and buy from another vendor.

I have only a couple days to decide if I am going to return the three stone. Replacing the center stone with a colored gem is an option, maybe with a sapphire center. I've not done any research into colored gems at all. These are all good things to think about. :read:

I would keep the ring together, and return it. You can easily find a well-cut diamond in the 0.93-1.10 range for $4500. Blue Nile especially has great prices. Run all the certs through the HCA.

HI:

Good luck on your decision. As you have your heart set on a solitaire, it is best you buy from a vendor that has a trade up policy. GOG and BGD both have one.

cheers--Sharon

I sent the ring back yesterday, and hopped on BGD to find my new diamond. :naughty:

I really have had my heart set on a BGD signature ever since I had him make my three stone Truth ring. The fact that the consigned ring at GOG had a BG center was one of the attractions for me. Right now it seems that they are pretty cleaned out in the range between .80-1.00 ct. I also noticed a lack of lower colored options in my preferred .8-1.0 weight that would fit my price range. But I found an appealing 6mm I/vs2 that fits into my budget perfectly:

Part of me thinks I was foolish to send back the K, seeing as that it was the size I wanted to start out with, and at a price I was very happy about. But in the end I would not have been able to trade up, so hopefully this will work out better overall.

Thanks for everyone who commented. I will post when I get the ring.

HI:

If it was a BGD, for the future, would not the trade up policy still apply to you? Honestly, I don't know....

cheers--Sharon

Honestly, I don't want to think about what could have been, now that that ring is being returned. As far as I know, upgrade applies to the original purchaser only.
