Need input on 3ct GOG cushion w/ ASET, DXray, youtube vids!!

Hi PS,

So I have been going through the process of choosing the diamond for my fiancee-to-be's ering and I THINK I have a winner, but wanted some other eyes on it. I have been working with David at GOG who is GREAT, and has been crazy helpful. So, I have 2 youtube videos of the diamond and the DiamXray and ASET tests, and I think they look pretty good, but wanted some input from others who are more experienced with this than myself.

For people who do like crushed ice and want it, I don't understand why you would want bright crown facets and then a crushed ice appearance under the table. If you like this one out of the comparo of 4 stones because it has a brighter crown facets, why wouldn't you want the table to be bright as well?

Notice the Brilliance is only good, have you asked them about that? Maybe it is normal with cushions.

The look is personal preference, some on pricescope don't like the broken glass look on cushions and radiants.
I happen to like it. I prefer the second diamond from right though.

The Asset shows a lot of green but think this is common with fancy shapes, ask GOG if they have not already shown you.

You do know that a 3 carat cushion faces up a lot smaller than a 3 carat round?

I think modern cushions aren't usually the highest light performance diamonds, so these are probably really good ones considering the type of diamond. I love the shape of this one, but I'd like to see the diamond pages for the other 3 stones if they have them up.

When hunting among non branded cushions it's a matter of finding the best diamond based on the clients specs/budget as well as what's available on the market. Within the given specs that is the best one we have been able to locate. We're exploring more options but most modern faceted cushions within spec are *all* crushed ice. When choosing between *all* crushed ice and a hybrid, the hybrid will win every time. That is unless the client is willing to sacrifice specs and have one custom cut which we could offer as well. We're going to give it another go around on the national market first though to see if we left a stone unturned.

Preface: I am in no way an expert - I'm pretty new here, myself. This is just personal opinion on looks.

The first one DOES perform the best OUT OF those four... But I think that's due to the larger facets around the perimeter. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of crushed ice cushions, but of course that has no bearing on the decision you're trying to make. The only thing I would point out is that the facets vary in size from larger on the perimeter to super splintery in the center, giving this optical illusion of... imploding..? So for ME, visually, there's no edge-to-edge uniformity of facet structure that generally makes a stone look full and expansive. I worry this 3 ct (which, as DS already pointed out, already has a smaller face up size than rounds) will appear smaller than it's dimensions.

If it IS those larger facets around the edge that's drawing you in, I'd say to hold out for a cushion that has that across its entire body.

And, of course, Rhino has a point. You're in the best of hands with GOG, but you need to have a good handle on what sort of faceting you want in a cushion.

Do you know your girlfriend prefers the crushed ice cushions?

The first stone looks a lot better in the second video .Where are the aset for the other 3 stones? They were not as bright it seemed in the first video but had better contrast/pattern

Hey all!! Thanks for the input. Yeah, the diamond was really nice, and actually looked really awesome in the second video. As some of you noted, the one we liked was the best, but that was out of the 4, and there are likely some others out there that would perform better. In regards to the questions about crushed ice, while she does like the vintage look, if she compares a really nice vintage to a really nice modern faceted cut, she prefers the modern - so we are gonna keep trying for the modern look (even if sometimes we run into those diamonds that look "slushy", which obviously isn't preferable.

After reading all your comments and talking more with David about it, we all decided to send them back and pull a new batch! Hopefully "the one" is in there (GOG is awesome, thanks!).

If you are looking for a modern Faceted cushion, did your insider the brellia? GOG has gorgeous ones!! Hearts and arrows in a cushion. What more can you ask for?
