Well, the time has come to look for an engagement ring. Trying to purchase something before a trip we will be making at the end of June. I have been reading these forums and getting as much info as possible to try make a decision, but help from you experts would be greatly appreciated.

I have between 8k-10k to spend. I would like to find a place I could get the setting and stone at so I don't have to deal with multiple vendors. So far I liked the Brian Gavin website as it already has the ASET and IS images for the diamonds and I can pretend I know what I am looking at when I see those images, haha. As far as settings go, I know she would like a band that has diamonds along the side as well, so I would like to get something similar to this French Pave setting I found on BlueNile: http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-...nt-ring-platinum_44723?elem=img&track=product

I would like to get a Hearts and Arrows Round or a simple round diamond. I have been looking in the .95 - 1 carat range, but not sure if I could get something bigger that is nice and within my price range. She has small hands and skinny fingers it seems as her ring size is 4.5. Not sure if anything bigger than a 1ct will look too big. I would be more interested in a nice cut than the size of the diamond as long as it doesn't go below .95ct.

Not sure what other information you guys would need to help, but just ask and I will try to answer as soon as I can.

Any help is appreciated and I will continue to read this site and do as much research as I can.

Thank you!!

Perfect vendor choice. BGD has the nicest pave solitaires. I'm off to find you a perfect match. And you have a great budget. No worries!

Will check out those links now. Thanks Gypsy.

Edit: I really like the first two settings you chose. Do you think that the six prong hides too much of the diamond over the four prong?

I have a strong personal preference for 4 prong settings. SO I'm not the best person to ask about that. Unless the stone is 1.5 and over I always think 4 prongs looks better. BUT if you were going to get a 6 prong BGD is the place to do it, they do really nice delicate prongs (doesn't hurt to ask for that either way though, just to emphasize it) and so they won't overtake your stone. 6 prongs IS safer though. I still prefer 4 prongs. But my preferences don't matter. Do you know what she prefers?

Well, I was just curious about what was available close to .95 and comparing prices with stones over 1 ct and found some more to consider. The first two are very close to the face up size (diameter) as the .97 but H VS2 and will save some money. The G is a minute amount smaller, too small of a difference to see.

Then over 1 ct mark for just a small amount more (my choice):

I like #1 and #2 b/c of its smaller table + a higher crown. That just me... ;))

I was leaning toward the four prong myself. I don't know what she would want exactly but I know she would like to see a shiny and "sparkly" diamond, hah. I think with the size of diamond I am looking at, the four prong would be a better choice. I guess a setting can always be changed if needed, though I know she won't want to change anything if it is something I picked.

I can see that the more options suggested, the harder this will be to choose. Is there a visible difference in color between an G/H? It seems as though VS2 is the highest I will get in my price range as far as clarity is concerned, but will going to H in color get my something bigger with essentially the same overall quality? (not sure if that makes sense)

Just wanted to give a shout out to Brian Gavin Diamonds. I got an absolutely stunning ring from them and got engaged this past weekend. BGD delivered exactly what was promised and were even able to move up the shipping date a bit when my travel plans had been changed. I couldn't have been any happier with the service they provided and my future wife couldn't be any happier about the ring.

Thanks again to those who helped with find the perfect diamond.
