Try her ring on your hands. Find a finger (or up to a joint) it fits best at without any muffin top. Mark that on your finger. Measure with around.

Also, see if you can find something firm the ring will fit over. Magic Sculpt is an air-dry claw with only 5% shrinkage. You can make a tube that it fits over and let that dry.

I agree with @Matthews1127, sizing down is easier than up. You an always have sizing beads added to take up a bit of space. If you size down, you have to cut the shank.

The ring you linked is a good match for the classic round tiffany setting. This is the classic Tiffany for a EC with a 1.16 ct IRL to show you the setting. https://doyledoyle.com/products/vintage-tiffany-solitaire-engagement-ring-emerald-cut-1-16ct

The problem with this setting of Tiffany's IMHO, is that the basket under the head it too wide. It makes it really hard to find a wedding band and unless the band is very low, it won't fit flush. So, I like the versions that suck that part in to make a wedding band fit more flush.

This is what I thought looked very very close to the above Tiffany EC.

The Melissa is a very pretty setting. I like the gallery bar with that V. It makes is more interesting from the side. I like that it is pinched in at the top of the shoulder and the bottom of the gallery. The shoulder pinch makes your center look bigger and this version further pulls in that low area to make a flush wedding band possible. Watch the 360 and look at the highlighted area.

So, of the BGs, I like the Melissa the most.

I like that both of these have the shoulder supporting the cross-bar on the head. TBH. EC's can tend catch and the setting damaged (and EC lost) during a life in comparison to rounded shapes. So, I like these settings that have support from the shoulders. One of our trade members mentioned that in cold climates mittens/gloves and coats are often the culprit. you want the most points of contact from a range of angles for large or pointy stones.

May I ask, how do u all get ASET images? Say, I'm looking at an EC ring (secondary market) will they be able to provide an ASET and GIA? How do I ensure the EC online via secondary market is good?
Thank you

Reach out to the vendor you’re working with, and request ASET images, videos, and any other visual aids you feel will be necessary to evaluate the diamond in question. Most vendors are happy to oblige. Others, not so much.

If the vendor has a store-front and will hold the stone, you can buy your own ASET and take your own videos and images for review.

I would reach out to David Atlas and make sure the kit you buy will suit an EC.

You can use a good quality cell hone camera, just make sure you have some way to steady it. My DH uses a Jody GorillaPod type stand for still images and to free his hands.

@Matthews1127 @rockysalamander I RESEEEEEERVED IT!! :dance::dance::dance:

Had a very pleasant experience with the customer support, they are really incredible! Made the concessions so necessary for me. Now only waiting to get paid and a month from now I should have it!

Thank you for the post about the rings @rockysalamander. In the end I ordered the "Melanie" model in Platinum. It is very similar to the "Melissa" one, except that it is a "knife edge":

Appreciate your help, ladies! Hope it will be just as beautiful in person, as it is on the picture.

@Matthews1127 Hey there! I'm having last minute reservations concerning the diamond. I know it's for me only to decide on the budget. But I was wondering, if you could sell me into the idea of why my 1,08ct H VS1 is much better than 0,7ct D VS1:

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/.../1.081-h-vs1-emerald-diamond-ags-104097911007
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/.../0.700-d-vs1-emerald-diamond-ags-104090173003

Is the difference in size evident to the naked eye and justifies the extra 2.5K? Because to be honest 1ct still looks kinda small in real life.

Be sure I want only the best for my future wife, but I'm unsure if she would appreciate that spending and be able to tell the difference...

What's your opinion?

It’s quite ironic that you would ask me this question, as this was the question posed to me by my DH, when we were discussing ER’s...lol!!
This was the EXACT comparison he & I made, in person, at our jewelers: 0.70ct v 1.07ct EC’s.
When placed side by side, there is a noticeable size difference. The greater difference in size was much more apparent, when each of them was placed in the suggested setting I had chosen, for inspiration. The 0.70ct diamond got totally lost in the setting. There was no “WOW” factor. 1.07ct won that fight, hands down.
Both of the diamonds you have selected are gorgeous, and they are both BGD signature EC’s, which are the best cut EC’s on Earth.
Performance will not be an issue with either. If you want it to stand out, go for the 1.08ct EC.

Indeed that IS a peculiar coincidence :D Thank you for the description, I needed to hear it from someone who already had experience in this process.

Even though I know she loves me no matter what ring there will be, I am really hoping for the "wow" effect. Don't wanna regret in a few years that I didn't buy her a bigger one o_O

My DH felt the same way. He knew I’d love anything he gave me, but I made my preference of cut a priority; Emerald Cut. I didn’t care about size, as much as I cared about it’s beauty, performance & brightness; those rainbow flashes are the BOMB! I didn’t want what everyone else had; I always dare to be different. I’ve loved EC’s the majority of my adult life, and I would have been disappointed with a different cut. In spite of it, I would have loved it, anyway because HE gave it to me.
That wasn’t an issue, as DH was set on an EC diamond. He just had no idea about the 4c’s or what the difference in size between diamonds would look like. Every time we approached the conversation, my starting point was 1ct, only because it was a solid point. Going up or down was optional; that was up to him & his wallet...lol! He finally asked me to go look with him to compare sizes, because all of the quotes he was getting were offsight, and made him nauseous...lol! He needed to SEE them to understand them. So, off to the jeweler we went. No phone call in advance. No special appointment. We just got lucky; they had 2 in the case in the sizes we had hoped to compare. I’d say it was fate. ;)2
Hope this helped you, tremendously. I know it helped us make our decision: 1ct and up! lol! :mrgreen2:

For size reference, here is my ER on my size 5.5 finger (ring size: 6 for comfort). The shank tapers from 2.0mm to 1.8mm (I believe). The split shank and collar add size to the shank, so the diamond has quite a bit of spread to have major presence.

I know you’re not sure of her finger size, yet, but this will give you a reference point.
I don’t think my 1.07ct EC looks “small”. ;)2

This is a true representation. No doubt that 1.08ct will win! It’s worth the extra $$$.

@Matthews1127 Hi there! Sorry, I haven't checked the forum for some time, so just saw your messages. Thank you for the comparisons, glad I ordered the bigger one =)2

Nevertheless, I'm a little bit worried. Right after I received the payment confirmation from BG, I wrote them a message with some questions, but haven't got a reply still. It was Friday early morning in Europe (Thursday night in US), I resent the message yesterday but still no answer. Previously, they replied in a matter of hours - max half a day. Should I be worried or not?

I wouldn’t be. If you don’t get a reply by Tues., I’d reach out, again. Are any of the questions you have something we can offer help on?

Unfortunately, no :(2 One question was about the timeframe for delivery, the second - if they have a smaller box than their usual one. BG's box is quite big and I'm thinking of buying something smaller, so it would be easier to conceal.

Thanks for comforting me, it's getting nervous when someone with a big bunch of your money overseas doesn't answer you :))

That’s understandable. I’m certain you’ll hear from them; those questions are quite simple to answer, and, I’d imagine, some of the most common they get, routinely. Is there a FAQ’s section on their website? Perhaps you can find answers, there?
Also, if you’d prefer a smaller ring box, perhaps you’d be interested in purchasing one of these as a keepsake for your intended?

Hang tight. School vacation, finals, and graduation are in full swing here in the US. I'm positive they will get back to by tomarrow.
