Need help with a new setting idea for this tourmaline

I need help trying to figure out a 3 stone setting for my tourmaline. I bought a piece of rough back in the Spring that was a beautiful yellow lemon color and I chose a Portuguese cut to make the most of the stone. It ended up being just over 2 carats and a sort of moval shape. I bought 2 diamonds 1/2 carat each for the sides. I sent it off to my jeweler to get set into a 3 stone that had a 6 prong center. I had some rather bad luck with the post office and they managed to destroy my package and break the tip off the stone. I had to get it sent back and then to the gem cutter again to try to fix this window I now have. He wasn’t able to close it completely but he tried to make it look more intentional.

I am sort of at a loss of what to do now. This was going to be a simple yellow gold 3 stone setting. I was thinking of some engraving and maybe a black rhodium finish as I have done that to a few of my rings lately. I don’t know a lot about colored gemstones but the culet looks a bit more like an OEC and I have modern sides. Would there be a way to disguise the window in the setting a bit more or should I just embrace the window as it is?

This is what it looked like before and it is just next to some old round .50 each diamond earrings so I could see what size worked. The 2nd pic is now with the hole. Last pic is the type of setting I was considering.

You could consider a yellow gold cup underneath to minimize the look of the culet. Such a shame, was it in a gem jar? Always send in a gem jar then wrap that in bubble wrap just to be sure.
A very pretty colour btw.

What is your setting budget? CvB has had some really pretty but not run of the mill three stone settings lately.

Thank you. It was well wrapped but had an international journey and they just destroyed the packaging. This is just one of many rings that I already own so not the end of the world but I was really in love with the color. It is not easy to find such a soft yellow. I am not sure how I would add a gold cup? This was my friend’s original CAD for her ring.

I came across this antique setting. I don’t know if a more enclosed setting would be better to minimize the window? I don’t mind the hole completely but I don’t want to see through the stone. I am not sure how to alter settings with a gold cup to make the hole less noticeable?

I am tagging @KKJohnson who might have some suggestions for the YG cup, as she has an amazing setting for her diamond that has one!

@swaye2010 Might you have additional pics of that antique setting you posted? It’s beautiful and I’d love to see more angles of it.

I think I saw her marquise pop up again because she redid it with David to make a thinner shank. That is the only gold cup I have ever seen on a setting. It worked so well on her’s but I am not quite sure how to translate it for a 3 stone with what I have to work with now.

I had that antique ring from Erstwhile saved for awhile but I never had any other pics of it. I was looking for a setting for an aquamarine that I am working on too and just happened to come across it. I find it a little ugly from the side but it could be updated to make it a bit more cohesive. I was thinking maybe a 3 stone with miligrain bezels so the bottom was enclosed might help?

I have a gold cup added to my trellis setting, it’s doable to have one added just to the middle stone. I have the cleaning holes on the side of the stone instead of directly underneath since I wanted to mask the keel line (same thing you want done with the culet). I had mine done in 18k yellow gold but since you love the light yellow I would suggest 10k gold for a lighter look.

Here are my before and after

As you can see the keel line is masked very well, I don’t even notice it anymore.

Thank you. I remember your stone well because the before and after was so dramatic. It really helps seeing what the gold cup looks like now. I can see how I can alter the other CAD by possibly switching it to a trellis setting to fit the cup. I don’t mind it slightly higher anyways since it helps with a flush sitting band.

I need to think about this or possibly adapting a bezel version with a milgrain edge. A cup could be created in the same way. I was going to stick with 14K gold for the setting and hope that it all blends well together. I might antique it to tone it down a bit.

A PSer has this ring but I don’t have the time to search for the thread....it’s a three stone with a large brown EC in a rose gold basket and the side stones and shank in platinum.
