Hi,

Looking to buy an oval diamond engagement ring very soon, but finding it hard to select oval cuts online. Been reading through the threads here and doing research. Also visited some retail stores to get an idea on ovals.

Budget: 15k-21k
Carat: 1.5 to 2
Color: D,E,F
Clarity: VS2 and up
L/W: 1.33-1.5
Planning to set it in a platinum pave 2mm or less band
ring size is 4.5

I'm looking at these three. Please tell me what you think.

Thanks!

The first looks really clean bow-tie wise but you're paying a premium. The second has a faint bow-tie that you'll probably notice and keep noticing once you see it in real life. The last one is nice too but not as nice as the first which is probably what you get for another 4K. On the other hand, I'm not sure if the difference will be that noticeable once set and seen in real life. I'm useless at assessing ovals in terms of their stats but I'm sure others can help!

Thanks for your thoughts Monipod, I like the first one as well. I'm okay with the 4k difference at this point lol.

Can I get someone's thoughts on these two from JA and how they compare to the first BN link that i originally posted? Attached reports.

1.73 CARAT D-VVS2 OVAL

1.51 CARAT E-VVS1 OVAL - not sure if the thick-very thick and 68% depth is an issue

“Diameter of a two carat” (oval?) will depend on whether it is tall and thin or short and wide.

I don’t like the first BN one at all. The shoulders are fat and I think it takes away some of what makes an oval so beautiful. =)2
My advice for ovals, you need other imagery or to see it in person. Even from the videos, it’s really hard to tell how it’s going to perform. I got one that looked great on the video, but the bow tie was so much more obvious in person. I’d be sure to buy from a website with a great return policy.
