OK sense you said unique I have to say I think this would be amazing!

http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/12657.htm#.UinhcaMpDFo

With a pink gold prongs/basket it would be very pink. You could set it with a halo or with white baguettes (I like the later) and it would be simply amazing! Classic yet no one would have anything like it.

I knew you'd find a marquise, Niel!! I think this would look gorg set E/W with a halo and intricate basket!!

I am on my phone so I can't see the mm size of that stone but a 70 point marquise on a size 5 would look huge. I've been obsessed with this stone I wish I found it when I was shopping. You'd look like a movie star. Haha
8.72mm long  - might be too big for a halo set E/W on a size 5!!
would look pretty N/S since he said she has long, slender fingers.

I wear a size 5 (although, unfortunately not very long and definitely not slender ::) ) and my round is 8.7 x 8.7 mm with a halo... and I want a bigger stone!! ...just sayin' :naughty:

IMAG0476-2.jpg

Either way, the pink marquise would be awesome! :))

If it were me I'd get the pink stone set with 14k prongs and a cup to spring out the pink in the stone, then I'd get colorless side diamonds in platinum. That way the stone gets its color concentrated and the the white brings out more pink with contrast.

cluless friggin love this ring. Great choice just over budget but it might sound like his GF might find this too much to handle but I am sure we would love it

Touche Pinkjewel. I wish my husband thought at all before he handed me my first ring 28 years ago....I hated it and he put no thought into it at all . I applaude any guy that puts this much effort into selecting a beautiful ring

Here's another example of how to set a light punk diamond. Plain shank halo in all rose gold IS pretty yummy too!! But it shows both rose gold and white metal on hers

I probably have 100 settings saved on my computer on "how to set a pink diamond"-lol. However, with the OPs total budget at $10,000 it might be better to see what diamond he selects first and how elaborate he wants to go. I had the impression he wanted simple from his earlier posts. A double halo with one of the halos in fancy pink diamonds is going to be at least $6000.00 for the setting (and maybe $7000.00)- which will put him over his budget.

Isn't that ring in a plain shank halo? That can be done for 2-3k from a quality bench (erd). Clearly I'm not saying copy that exact ring but its not far fetched to assume he could get a similar look for his budget. I wasn't saying anything about fancy pink halo, I was saying the corral setting look.

And I'm still on the marquise bandwagon. Nice baguettes in a white gold setting and rose gold for the diamond would be classic, simple, and stunning.

No, Niel- if you read her first post she states the new setting has 2 "lines" (ie halos) in fancy pink diamonds. that is going to be waaaaaaay more expensive than 2 to 3 thousand dollars.

If you read the bolded point I'm saying a similar look. Plain shank halo. You don't HAVE TO have a rolling halo to get the same look. I agree that setting is out of budget though. You're right about that. But the overall design points could be replicated.

Thanks again for the awesome feedback.

Originally I was thinking on a solitaire but a not so big halo could work
I do like this ring that tyty333 posted :
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/crafted-by-infinity-round-brilliant-diamond-100ct-ji1-ideal-cut-agsl-r4904
and I think I would like to get something similar to that but with slightly different setting colors

So far I think that I would go with round instead of marquise

I like the diamond that pinkjewer suggested :
http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/9181.htm#.UiqD1X_3N1o
so I will call them Monday and see if I can secure the diamond

I guess once I get the diamond then I need to get to work on the setting. BTW, I don't mind putting some time on this project, after all the ring is not only for her but it is also for me since I see it as an extension of me that she is going to carried around so it has to be as perfect as possible.

I am glad that I found this place!!! thank you all.

I love that last marquise ring, but I think it's safe to say that the marquise cut is NOT everyone's cup of tea. I'd stick with the round too, or a cushion, emerald, or square cut, unless you know that your GF would like a marquise.

agreed! but i assume theres probably an open dialog, as I imagine a guy doesnt come to the conclusion of a pink diamond without some direction... I could very well be wrong, but if there is i think its worth asking, as that diamond is by far the biggest looking pink one, and size does matter. Especially when considering stones around 30-70 points

Just an FYI- they will be back on Sunday if you want to talk with them then. And I love the simple halo style you linked- that's what I'd pick, also. :))

to set a light pink diamond off to maximum advantage the OP will be better off going custom to make sure he gets an enhancement cup.

TopQ, You have a few options with the halos as far as metal choice and combinations.

You can do all white metal and diamonds (except prongs and enhancement cup)- similar to the pink heart I linked on page 1.

You can do all rose gold with white diamonds- on both halo and shank. This will not make the pink diamond "pop" as much- but would be a pretty, soft look. There was a thread in "Show me the Bling"just recently where someone posted a light pink diamond in a double halo using all rose gold and white diamonds to give you an idea.

You could do the halo in rose gold with pink diamonds and the shank in white metal and colourless diamonds. If you decide to use pink diamonds, I suggest you use at least Fancy pink- not fancy light. Fancy light will barely look pinker than colourless diamonds when set in rose gold and I don't think they justify spending the additional money on them.

You could do the halo in rose gold with colourless diamonds and the shank in white metal with white diamonds.

How's that for choices to consider?!! :D

I really like this ring
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/crafted-by-infinity-round-brilliant-diamond-100ct-ji1-ideal-cut-agsl-r4904
do you have any settings similar to it?
Also, could a setting like you described above (rose gold cup to enhance the pink) could be adapted to work with a ring like the one from the link above?
Also would a ring like the one above be a "good" engagement ring? Seems like that ring has some defects that the jeweler tried to hide but I don't know enough to see if that is easily visible once you have the ring in from of you

Thanks for your help,

Have you seen this?

To answer your question, they can easily ad a cup to that design. They do it often.

Take a book at the under side of this ring.

If you like these rings, I'd see if they have any ability to find you a pink stone. They don't seem to have many on their site, but maybe they could source one.

TopQ,

The DBL ring you linked is a wonderful engagement style and a rose gold cup can easily be added to this type of setting. David at Diamonds by Lauren has done that many times. The pink heart ring I referenced earlier is basically the same style which he made with the rose gold cup. He has a couple of hand forged benches that make this style- one is more expensive than the other. Although I don't own any of this particular style- I have bought several items from David and he could make you a lovely ring. He no longer sets stones that have not been purchased from him- so if you want him to make the ring you will need to contact him about finding you a pink diamond. Why don't you send him an email or call him? He usually doesn't get to his office until around noon or so and generally works quite late.

What do you think of something like this:

http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/colorless-diamond-ring-62ct-d-si1-cushion-cut-gia-split-shank-halo-ring-r5091

But with a pink diamond in the center and a rose gold cup?
Will the rose gold cup completely change the color of the white diamonds on the halo itself? I would like to accentuate the color of the Pink diamond in the center but not the others. I guess that might not be possible.
Will this design also work with a round diamond or do I have to stick with the cushion? What do you think?

You could use that style with a round brilliant. The cup would not change the color of the halo diamonds- as long as you keep them in white gold or platinum and just keep the rose gold prongs and cup on the center pink diamond. The diamonds in this halo are larger than the other ring you liked which was more of a micro pave- this ring shows more metal. Since you are asking my opinion- I prefer the first style you liked- but, it is not my preference which counts. =)

Have you emailed (or talked with) David to see what pink diamonds he might have available?

Hello Pinkjewel
I did talk to him.
The main issue is the diamond. They are very expensive for anything that has some real color or size.
He suggested this one:
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/halo-diamond-ring-32ct-purple-pink-cushion-diamond-rosy-halo-gia-r3858
but I am not sold on that design. It looks too square  and there is too much white diamonds on the halo at least for my taste
I still would like to get something like this one
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/crafted-by-infinity-round-brilliant-diamond-100ct-ji1-ideal-cut-agsl-r4904
but with a much smaller stone. He does have some round pink diamonds (~ 0.4 ct) but they are expensive. He said a ring like the one above will be like 14K!!! I guess I could push it to 12K but that is all I can do :-(
