Hi,

I am in need of some experts (diamond fans/enthusiasts) to give me some sound advice. I am having incredible difficulty in choosing the better diamond between the two listed below. I've talked to experts from both companies and both say that their diamond is the better choice for various reasons. WF is saying that the diamond from BGD won't make their Cut Above line due to the asymmetry of hearts and arrows positions and cutlet spacing??? Is there any truth to that? And BGD is saying that WF has been increasing their prices beyond the average market price to create a "fake" higher-end market?

Disregarding the cost, which is around the same between the two stones (BGD is actually less expensive), which is a better diamond? And why? Please help me why one is the better choice. In my own non-expertise eyes, I don't see why I should get the WhiteFlash diamond over BGD's. Just on pure ct size the stone from BGD is 0.04 bigger. Both are ideal cut stones in D color, VVS2 clarity.

Re: Need expert help on choosing the better diamond (WF vs B

So you are saying BG discounted their price but WF did not? Or are they both discounting and BG ended up lower? Because the pricing I see has the BG stone higher. I find that funny that they say that about WF pricing when their prices are usually higher on their site! Not to mention, there are H&A vendors who are higher than WF and BG. Just trying to get the pricing understood before looking closely at the diamonds.

Yes, the BG diamond ended up cheaper with 10% off (VIP sale) and WF only offered the standard wire discount which is 2% off the price.

I am only asking because I would go back to WF and tell them the pricing of the other stone and see what they say.

I can't tell any real difference between these stones. I think any differences would be undetectible to a consumer, especially. So pricing compared to size is going to be a huge factor in your decision. I'd get bottom line prices and then see which has the advantage. That said, I have dealt with WF for many years including when BG used to work there, and I have just stayed with WF because I have been able to upgrade there and have had great customer service, plus their prices have generally run lower on most stones and jewelry.

After talking to WF, they said they would match it and beat it. The BGD stone is $100 more now.

I plan on getting the setting with WF so if both diamonds are equal in terms of quality, I should get the one from WF even though it's the smaller rock?

Re: Need expert help on choosing the better diamond (WF vs B

They are both so similar (AGS 000 stones) I'd probably go with the lower priced stone, or the vendor that carries the setting style I preferred or that cost less overall. Do you know which setting you would get from either vendor?

The only other thing to possibly consider is that the BG stone is 6.05 x 6.09mm and the WF stone is 5.98 x 5.99mm. It's tenths of milimeters, so I don't think it's going to be noticeable in terms of size, but maybe in terms of "mind clean" or something?

I don't think you can really go wrong with either BG or WF.

This is the setting I will be going with either diamond:

And what is this "mind clean" thing you are referring to? I see this phrase pop up from time to time...

If you are set on a setting from WF definitely get the WF stone. Less risk, less hassle, and cheaper (WF charges a small fee to set stones not purchased from them).

Re: Need expert help on choosing the better diamond (WF vs B

I agree, go with WF since they have negotiated the price and have the setting you want.

Mind-clean is regarding features that might be impossible to see visually but make you happy for some reason...such as VVS2 versus VS1. VS1 is totally clean to the eye and you generally cannot see inclusions with a 10x loupe. I like great clarity, but I won't pay for higher than VS1 because it is so clean. Whereas for others, VVS is a choice for cultural or other reasons, making it more of a mind-clean issue. Another would be a .98 ct stone. Someone might be so happy to get that, because it will cost slightly less than 1.0+ but appear the same. But for others, having the paper say 1.0 cts is a mind-clean issue.

Thanks for clarifying and making suggestions. Looks like WF it is!
