I have a pendant and ring that I want to sell, but haven't been offered what I think is reasonable. Should I get them appraised or something to help me sell them for what I think is reasonable?
I think the problem is that sometimes we think our items are worth more than they will sell for. Certainly I do not know if that is the case with your items, of course. All I can tell you is that most typical jewelry store appraisals are inflated, so I usually consider the item might be worth half of the appraisal amount. Then I'd offer about half that much since the item is used. That is just a general idea, but really, it is hard to sell jewelry and get much for it unless we are talking about ideal cut diamonds or designer jewelry where the actual prices are easily found.
So an appraisal might be better than no information, but just understand that most people will know the item is not worth the appraised value. Of course, there are independent appraisers like some who participate here that would be good to use if the items are valuable, and those appraisals would be more respected.
Thank you! I appreciate the information and will have to look into it. At least for my peace of mind so I don't go crazy trying to get a price that's unobtainable.
