Hello! I could really use some advice about my rings. My husband proposed with my great grandmother's diamond (1.43 CT) in a solitaire setting which we knew would get replaced eventually. I made the mistake of getting a wedding band that doesn't quite work with my solitaire so I never wear it. It's a five stone band and each stone is .2 carats. It is important to my husband that I either wear the wedding band or use stones from it to make a new setting, as opposed to wearing it on my other hand. I've been looking into using some of the stones to make a 3 stone ring, so I ordered a sample (fake) ring in the setting I like to see how it looks. It's stunning but the side stones are much smaller than mine. I'm looking for opinions whether this setting would look pretty with my size stones, or if it looks OK with my wedding band as is. I think the 0.2ct stones would be complimentary to your center stone. Have you considered pear or triangle side stones? Those would also look beautiful with your round center diamond.

I like the new setting with that size side stones, but I feel the band overpowers the setting. It would make a great right hand ring. To my eye, a skinny band really compliments a diamond ring. My two cents!

I feel like the wedding band detracts from the e-ring bc the proportions aren't quite right, and they don't sit against each other very nicely.

Actually I really like how they look together. That little gap helps them stay as separates but they're also a really nice pairing.

You need a spacer ring b/t the Ering and band so that the stones from your band doesn't chew up your Ering prong.

This is how I used to wear it when we first got married, but I stopped wearing the diamond band altogether and now just wear the twisted band and the e-ring. I know it bothers him that I don't wear the band he gave me

^^this was my first thought as well. It may also (the spacer) help with any perceived proportion problem as there will always be a small distance between the two.

As an owner of a three stone ring with two small side stones, I can tell you that they are very, very hard to match with a wedding band. I actually still don’t wear one. Solitaires are much more versatile.

It’s unfortunate that your husband is taking it personally, because you have a gorgeous band that will look excellent on its own on your right hand.

I wouldn’t dismantle the band in order to just get two stones out of it as side stones to your e-ring. It is a gorgeous band as is. You will be better off purchasing a brand new e-ring setting/new store stones.

What if you wear the e-ring in your RH and the band on the LH? Would your DH/you mind that?

No, I think he’s just pleased I’m wearing it! If I could choose again I’d pick a much thinner pave band, to be honest, but there was little choice in the store the day we were looking. (This is 20 years ago, well before internet shopping was established)

+1 I like this look best too. I think it looks well-balanced with all three. The good thing is you can buy other small stacker rings (Singlestone) and alternate them as you like, so you have some variety.

Three stone rings are difficult to pair with a wedding band. Thin and plain is probably the best. I decided I wanted to try and find a diamond band and the Tiffany channel set band (see my avatar) was the best look by far. Trust me when I tell you I must have tried on 200 different bands from time to time and the channel set was the most complimentary look without competing with the three stone ring.

I too like your solitaire, spacer band and wedding ring. They don't clash and give just enough definition between the three rings.

I think the new setting would match your wedding band a bit better if the side stones were the same size as in your 7 stone .... so would suggest not taking the 7 stone apart and just get a setting with new side stones. However, I’m also with those that point out it’s hard to match a band with a three stone.

If you keep the solitaire, my vote is the e-ring, twisty band, and then the 5 stone.

What about changing the solitaire setting to better work with your wedding band? I think if your soli was wider (along the finger) and has a reverse taper -- it stand out more. Then, make sure the gallery allows for you wedding band to be flush. I'd still see a spacer to protect the soli from the diamond band, but this would really make the soli stand out. I think the soli needs the plain shank to have a presence against your substantial diamond band.

The gallery could be a nice woven design to give it a bit more "look" from the side....or a million other details could be added based on what you like.

This stack looks terrific! Love the twisty band as spacer and IMO leave the solitaire alone - looks as it is.
