What are these "windows"? Can anyone please explain? I'm confused. :))

I was confused too until Dreamer and distracts pointed it out - pretty sure she means the cathedral shoulders

Oh, the little cut outs that the cathedral shoulders make...thanks Yssie!

yeah thats what i mean, and that WF one doesnt have those does it? Can you even have a knife edge with a cathedral setting? And it makes me mad they keep saying the pics I provided had that.

And it makes me mad they keep saying the pics I provided had that. Print it out, circle it, take it in, point out the lack of any windows of any sort, get your money back, start over ::)

Don't worry about BGD setting your stone - they will set outside diamonds but there is a minimal fee for it. Maybe it's in the $50 - $75 range, can't recall, but well worth it. My 3 stone and my OEC Barbara were my stones set in their settings. HAve you found anything on BGD that would work for you? Maybe there is a style there that might appeal....

They mainly show MRB's and princess cuts, but just have a chat with them and ask to have them send you some pear photos. They are wonderful at what they can create!

Are you going to get the refund and walk away? That would be my choice ;))

No it does not have those. If you gave them the pictures you posted here, I don't know why they would even think that! I CAN see how they saw the knife edge and thought it was cathedrally, but... no, that's not what's going on if you actually look at the pictures. So annoying. BUT your pear diamond is absolutely beautiful - that's why you need the perfect setting to go with it.

If i go though BGD i would get either the sholdt lola or piper. I really think a bezel is what I need. Having that ring on my finger even for a bit made me uncomfortable all exposed, especially in WG( i am a clumsy 20 something with a baby and an active dog  ). So i think im just going to get something different. I really like the Ritani like ive been saying but the only place that has those anywhere around me is this B&M store. which is why im thinking of just asking them to move my money toward that setting rather than ask for it back all togethe, which i feel like i would get more push back. Also sense its a bezel setting they would send it strait to ritani and have nothing to do with the actual setting of the ring, just would make me much more comfortable at this point. Also, because of were i work the prices are very reasonable. She is getting a quote for that from Ritani and should have it for me tomorrow, if that seems reasonable I think I am going that route. But I definitely told her I was unhappy with the ring and the way it came out and sounds like I would get a full refund to go toward my new setting.

I like that setting a lot where is it set? JA? I cant find it on the site :/

yeah i thought that was the one but it isnt, the bezel is thicker and the shank just is slightly different. I think maybe they dont make the one that was linked to me anymore. Which makes me sad because i dont like a chunky band i like it more rounded. or else id be all over that JA setting. A bezel wont ruin my light return right? I want one so it will emphasize the pear shape but not if my pear will be dull :/

Hard to say for sure. Theoretically, a setting should not affect a well-cut stone's light performance. However, in reality, that's not always the case--some people do think a bezel affects their stone and the overall sparkliness.

Yes, anything that prevents light from getting in will affect light return of any shape, in theory. In practice like Laila said it depends on what's blocking the light and what the shape is, what sort of faceting it has, proportions... If you're fine with how your pear looks in a halo you'll be fine with a bezel, I think.

I LOVE the clean lines of the JA bezel!!!! I think the proportions look really perfect!

I do like the way my pear look in the halo. So I think Ive decided I am just having the same store send my diamond to ritani to have them set it in a endless love setting like this, but obviously fit or my pear. They agreed to give me a full refund.

I wanted to post this picture of my pear. close up I feel like you can really tell all that is wrong with it, the prongs are wonky, you can see the metal under some of the diamonds, the diamonds in the halo just seem to large, the tip of the pear doesnt seem to fit the tip of the halo, and the whole halo just seems slightly mashed to to one side, let alone my shank issues. :nono:

I really like the bezel too but I think with my 7.25 fingers its better for me to get a halo. Plus i really like how its a bezeled halo. Itll really bring out her lovely shape

Nielseel:

The ring they made you looks nothing like the photos: the photos shows a halo and yours is set above the stones. The band is flat and thick verse a modified knife edge. I hate to say thise but you seem rather timid and passive about all of this. You need to say "I want my stone removed and my money returned immediately. You had my stone for a month and this ring does not match the photos I gave you in any way shape or form. The workmanship is poor to boot. If you dont refund my money I will file a complaint with my credit card company and the Better Business Bureau." Otherwise they will tell you they can remake it and if this is what they did to start then they CANNOT make what you want.

Not to say I am passive about it I just figure if I can be less abrasive to them I feel like I can get more accomplished. They've already agreed to refund me my money as well as contacted Ritani for a quote and agreed to ship them the ring insured for no extra cost to me, which are funds I would be paying myself if I just stormed in there talking about the bbb and demanding my stone back. They are having no more input on the disign or making of my e ring so I just don't feel like I have to take it somewhere else to have the same thing a complained. Especially sense I would be spending hundreds more to do it.

It sounds like you're on a good path.

So sorry it's not working out so far. The PS'ers here will give great support though. Just FYI, the inspiration ring from Whiteflash definitely does not have an open cathedral style shank - it's solid. I can only guess that your jeweler may have mistaken the reflection of the halo onto the shank in the photo and just assumed.

Nielseel, it sounds like it is going to work out positively in your favour - I'm so happy for you! You are getting a refund, they agreed to ship your ring to Ritani - that's great!! They'll still make some money in the retail vs. wholesale world, and that's perfectly fine because they are a business! AND... you seem to be very cooperative with alternatives and a resolution. Sounds like a very amiable agreement has been reached.

Fantastic- can't wait to see the NEW engagement ring! Wonderful turn of events - woohoo!

Yeah I think it should be really nice! im ok with it looked different than my original idea because at least this way my wedding band will be flush with the band, which it would definitely not have been with the original. And it still gets the halo with plain shank look :)
I think it will be a beautiful. I was worried you would hate the pear i picked (more worried about you PSers than myself) but i quite love it on my finger even with the garbage setting

Perfection! I'm so happy that it finally worked out for you!

So much better! It turned out really nice!

Pruessers.

I would never commission anything from them again, but they were more than fair with my refund, sent it to be set in my ritani without a fuss. I am in love with ritani and there settings and no place else sells them around here. the next ring i get, if its not custom, i will take my stone there to get it set.

I should tell you this to file away for the future:

A friend of mine had her stone switched by Pruessers--this was about 8 years ago, she had taken in an earring that needed work, & in the process, the stone was switched. Husband went in to 'discuss' & they made good on the situation, essentially. I can't really remember what Pruesser did for a make-good, my takeaway was the situation was resolved. Good that they took care of it, bad that it even happened in the first place. You just never know, just be cognizant.

If you don't have already, I'd get a grading report on future stones to be set by Anyone, it's just a good practice, that way you can compare report/stone to make sure. ' Trust but verify' is my mo.

yeah i have heard a handful of bad things about them. They had really good customer service, lots of responses to my emails and whatnot, but again good customer service can only go so far. Like your friend, sure they rectified the situation, but i should have never been put in that situation in the first place.

I would imagine they didnt switch my stone, being that it has that signature SBF and its hard to find two pears that are the same shape, seems like a lot of work to accidentally switch them  , but i had heard a similar story, definitely something to worry about if it was a round or something!
