Just wanted to say that your stone is gorgeous! It reminds me of an octavia on the outer rings then a regular emerald cut in the middle.
Very unusual and cool to look at!

SERIOUSLY my jaw it the floor. This stone is AMAZING. the best of both worlds Asscher look but elongated stone.

I hope David Klass comes back with a doable quote. That setting in ROSE would be PERFECT. And his work is FANTASTIC.

Can not wait to see your baby set? Does she have a name?

Good luck

This stone is STUNNING. Since you decided to spend more money on the stone (and yes, I would have too in your case), I'd go with a cheap rose gold solitaire setting for now, and SAVE for a VC french cut setting.

I would die for something like this. https://www.victorcanera.com/rings/engagement/the-sophia-french-cut-solitaire-with-emerald-cut

Yours of course, would feature a much larger center stone. :naughty:

I do however, really love the idea of side traps as well and completely endorse that look as well.

Your new stone is breathtaking!!!   It's an amazing find! I cannot wait to see what you do as far as the setting goes! I love the setting with traps, but can understand that it may make sense to put it in a simple setting for now. On a side note, I searched for about a year and finally found some nice side stones. (Bullets) I have been looking for other side stones, but as Gypsy said...it's not always easy! I do think it takes way more knowledge than I have at least! :wall: Looking forward to hearing if the DK quote is an option or not.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Thank you thank you everyone!!! I feel so cool that I found this one all by myself and Jon gave it 2 thumbs up!

Rockinruby where did you find your Bullets after searching for a year? I do love a good hunt 8)

I definitely have zero dollars for a fancy setting - I thought I did but I don't. Oops! maybe I'll scotch tape it to my finger  Jon has an estate setting but even that is more than I can swing at the moment until I sell another setting I have. So I have him investing a cheap Stuller while I let my bank account recover. I attached a pic so you can see her cute little culet!

She is GORGEOUS.

Build the bank account back up. Wear her and get to know her personality. And then narrow down what you want. And then if you want to buy sidestones... make sure you know what you want in terms of dimensions, and just search. Once you have those you can look for someone to set them.

Baby steps.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Thanks Gypsy!! Isn't she icy white for a K? Maybe it's the white metal. I may go for a rose gold temp setting just to see how she looks in it.Now to find the perfect cheapie. JewelryHoo? Her measurements are kind of funny so should I just look for emerald cut settings? I'm open to a wider band so that it doesn't spin on my finger if you happen across something simple and....CHEAP LOL!

Where do you all hunt for bullets/traps other loose stones? Ebay?? Honestly I have no idea about proportions so it may be tough without help. I love a good hunt and would enjoy taking my time with this one. Squeee!

I sent you an email through the DB contact on the ebay hunting.

The key is, work out what you want, and hunt for that. Don't be lured by things that aren't what you want just because they are cheap.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Thank you, I got it and will look through all of your helpful links!

Oh yes, I am usually good about passing on things just because they are cheap, I am just not sure about appropriate sizes of side stones etc for my center stone - is there a way to figure that out? like a ratio formula? So I know what to hunt for as I figure out whether to go for traps, bullets, bags?

The temp setting on the other hand, cheap but sturdy and not hideous lol these are basically all I see on Stuller that would work - this first one might not because of the basket opening possibly not accommodating the shape of the pavillion on my stone since it is wider than a normal emerald cut and the prongs may be too small? http://www.stuller.com/products/71595/?groupId=115028
http://www.stuller.com/products/build/122574/11462858/?groupId=122860#/center-stone
http://www.stuller.com/products/build/122218/10298237/?groupId=120216#/center-stone

or maybe a simple bezel?

are there any other good sites for temp settings that you recommend? JewelryHoo or the place Tourmaline gets hers on eBay/Etsy?

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

I like the middle one only.

As for where else to look: Adwar.

I've bought LOTR and Jewelry Hoo settings. They are not 'wear everyday' quality at all, IMO.

I would stick to Stuller and Adwar.

Don't limit yourself to emerald settings. Look at cushion settings and radiant settings too. Those would work for your stone as well.

What a pretty stone! I enjoyed watching the GOG video and I would have chosen your stone too. I loved the multi flashes of color! Congrats on such a good find.

Just wanted to say congrats on finding that stunning diamond! It's one of the most beautiful diamonds I've ever seen!

I love the idea of traps personally. I have this picture saved of my holy grail ring, it belongs to Widget, and is an asschery ec as well.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

I adore that diamond!!!   That is really high on my wish list! I love them with halos as a frame. But I love the bezelled step baguettes so much, too! I think side traps might be a little modern for an antique asscher, but I guess it depends on how they are cut. That is an elegant look, though. Widget's has side asschers.

Here's a fabulous setting Victor just made recently with the side baguettes:

https://www.victorcanera.com/rings/engagement/emerald-and-baguette-stepped-five-stone-ring

My two cents is not to try to buy your own baguettes or side stones. DK is very reasonable overall as you know and those need to be the exact right size.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Thanks DS! I'm blushing from all these wonderful comments! I really feel like I won the hunt with this diamond and will want to keep it forever and ever and ever! It is a bit smaller than I wanted but I just had to have it the moment I saw it! Funny, I never sought out for an asscher as I prefer elongated shapes but I have always been drawn to asscher optics and deeply champhored corners. This really is the best of both worlds.

I should have her in my hands (loose) on Monday and can't wait to get to know her better.

I agree about the modern feel of the traps and that it may not be the right look for an antique. They are out of my budget anyway. I adore the bezeled graduated baguette setting so much! And I do like the way a halo would frame it and highlight the shape. Not to mention giving it a little size nudge. And wow, VC is just torture. This is my bank account when I even think of a VC setting     :naughty:

Here's the ASET if anyone is curious. Now that we know it's a winner (and that I own it  ) I guess it doesn't matter, but I figure you might be wondering. Still waiting for setting ideas from DK

I like the halo design but either will be TDF!

CAD ideas! Jon and I just had fun with his CAD program and here are two ideas we came up with (with and without pave shank) I am also having him render a halo option.
Here's option 1. The splayed prongs would go over the corner tips to make it look like an 8 prong - these are rough

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

I HATE the boxy basket, personally. I would do something about that puppy. How about something more like this: https://www.pricescope.com/blog/jewel-week-antique-cushion-cut-diamond-ring
Or this: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/files/0aaf4f90505f058e972bb6c5e84081a3.jpg
Or this: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/files/recently_106.jpg

Do you want a wear a flush fit wedding band? Cause there is NO WAY that basket is gong to allow anything like that, you are talking a 3 mm gap between any band and that ring. So the designs I've posted will allow either a flush fit or at least a small (1mm or so) gap.

Other than that, what is the mm width on that pave shank? It looks really thick.

I'd ask him to alter that shank to a graduated pave 1/2 eternity. See what he thinks of that. So like this:
http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-ring/review?diamondBt=3&offerId=42081&gclid=CjwKEAiAuKy1BRCY5bTuvPeopXcSJAAq4OVsDDDb&click_id=907329587

And maybe this design instead of just a pure solitiare: http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-ring/petite-graduated-milgrain-engagement-ring_56233?elem=img&track=product I think that would look cool. Almost like this: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/files/img_8324.jpg

Just ideas.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

LOL I hate the boxy too. The pave shank is 2mm thick which is what I asked for - I want it to have a little weight. Although I am thinking maybe I want something just all metal. I do really like the photo you posted of the solid gold and the petal gallery - it's the same gallery I used on my marquise. Do you have a top view of that? is it a halo/bezel? I think I want something with heft and weight to it so I would love to see the top!

I adore bezels but hate the thought of not seeing every square inch of this beauty - what do you think?

That one is a bezel. It's one of my favorites. It's also a halo. They use it for a couple of different looks. It's from BE.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-gorgeous-dainty-erd-rose-gold-halo-omb.191094/

You can do a plain shank halo. Which is what I have. Or a bezel with a pave shank. Which is what Blue Roses has (look it up).

I personally wouldn't bezel or halo it. But that's just me. I think it's big and pretty enough on it's own and I'd enjoy looking at the stone from all views. So I'd go with a VERY simple basket that lets me see the stone. And then do something fun or decorative (like pave or whatever) on the shank.

But it's not my stone. And it's not my ring.

And 2mm is smart on pave in any type of gold. Since you aren't doing platinum don't go thinner.

Or this:
http://www.onlinediamondbuyingadvice.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Emerald-Cut-Engagement-Ring-in-18k-Rose-Gold.png Which you could do with a lot of the ebay baguettes we looked at.

But I don't like this, for example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-36ct-S-T-Light-Brown-SI1-Asscher-Cut-Diamond-Ring-R6455-Diamonds-by-Lauren-/251989383574

I do love this: https://www.pricescope.com/blog/jewel-week-classic-asscher-cut-diamond-solitaire (though I'd adjust the basket a little more for a closer fit band).

Another that would work with the ebay baguettes. (That ring you sent to me yesterday with all 12 or 16 baguettes would work with this)

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Ah you're right, I looked up Blue Roses ring. Lovely but not the look I am going for. So I think you are right. A simple basket with either a pave shank or a rounded all metal one. Jon was using some CAD program and was screen sharing with me so I got to offer input and watch as he built it - very cool - but I think we will take a second stab at it tomorrow. I do love that OWD ring.... and I found one on loupetroop but surely it is sold - it is almost the exact size for my diamond...but I can't decide on rose gold - sometimes they look so coppery. http://www.loupetroop.com/listings/settings/star-reduced-star-18ct-white-gold-double-claw-semi-mount-size-4-dot-5

I love the look of shared prong pave - is it durable?

That is gorgeous! I thought I liked cathedral but maybe I don't. Ha! I like a super low setting, I know that much. And the simple VC solitaire is lovely - I was actually looking at that exact ring earlier but my husband thinks it's a bit too simple. I do have small fingers but like a little more weight to the band. At least 2-2.5mm I think.

I like both. It depends on the actual setting. That said, I would go wtih a 2.2mm shank personally. As for rose gold.

I'm of the opinion it's a fad and will date. I do want a rose gold stacker, personally. But it would be a nice inexpensive stacker so I could add rosegold to my look, but not commit to it for my setting. I sincerely just like platinum for engagement rings. I just think it is always best, unless the wearer hates white metal. So I am biased. And I'm old. I'm 40. So my tastes reflect that.

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Excellent point about the rose gold. Okay. So I am going to talk to him about a rounded shank with a super low simple basket. Maybe pave on the shank. Shared prong is okay? Should I go for claw prongs, double claws, or tabs? I want them to disappear - but the claws on my other ring caught on everything! I'm going to ask him to price out Platinum. I like my rings to have weight to them.

And 40 is NOT old!
