I''m all for it! My husband also has a Canon; his macro is a gazillion times better than mine. It''s of course a much newer camera, and mine does everything non-macro quite well for an older model.
Update: The demantoid is done and in my hands...it looks perfect! But as I mentioned in the catch-all thread, the tourmaline was damaged during setting, and Michael will cut a new one for Kyle Anne to set. I will also be sending a couple of moonstones to KA for an earring/ring set. Sally''s and Julia''s projects are still in the queue...it''s so hard not to get impatient, but I''m trying!
I''m soooo impatient! I keep looking at the Etsy sites to see how many listings stand between me and my projects.
In the meantime, someone seriously needs to stop me from buying gemstones. Seriously! I''ve jumped on the tsavorite bandwagon. Couldn''t resist this one for its blue undertone, square shape, and great price:
For those of you who asked for pics of my demantoid ring, here''s one! I have a lot of difficulty with pictures because I live in a city apartment that''s poorly lit, and my camera is a dinosaur. But anyway, this is the stack I''m currently wearing until the others come in, and then I''ll have a 3-ring stack from Kyle Anne and a 3-ring stack from Sally. The 2 spacer bands will be used with both and came from Birka Scandinavian. Very inexpensive and fast...I highly recommend them!
The cool thing about the demantoid is that it seems to have a teeeeny bit of a color shift. It takes on a more yellowish tone in the same lighting that makes the alex green, and a purer green tone when the alex is purple. That photo was taken with a flash, and you can see the alex is green and the demantoid is more yellow-green.
Thanks LG! And thanks again for the suggestion of the demantoid. I keep staring at it all day - just a little fireball!
I have a few more acquisitions since the last time I posted! Here they are...
Top left: 4.82mm Portuguese round blue tourmaline - to be set in a bezel ring by Kyle Anne metals. Any thoughts on the band? Twisted rope would be cool but I''m doing that for the moonstone. Maybe the "birch" style?
Top middle: 5x6.93mm unheated oval tanzanite - not sure how to set but would fit in a calibrated 5x7 setting
Top right: 4.54x4.6mm princess cut tsavorite - would like to set points-out in a ring, but not sure where to go from there
Bottom left: single 5mm faceted rainbow moonstone, to be set in a bezel ring with twisted rope band by Kyle Anne metals
Bottom middle: pair of 4mm faceted rainbow moonstones, to be set in bezel earrings by Kyle Anne metals
And threw the apatite ring in there for fun because I had an extra spot.
The tanzanite is a tad premature since I haven''t even paid for it yet...LOL! But I was thinking of setting it N/S in a Patrick Irla ring with 2 rose gold hydrangeas a la Freke. I''d have to see it in person but am inclined to believe that RG would complement it well. It would have to be an occasional wear ring, being prong-set and relatively unprotected.
I''m also thinking of a ring from CreativeGoldsmith on Etsy for the tsav but haven''t contacted them yet. Not sure whether to bezel or prong-set it, since IRL it''s a bit darker than the picture.
Updates on the rest...Sally still has the spinel and pyrospess, Julia still has the zircon, Kyle Anne has the moonstones, the round blue tourmaline is on its way to Kyle Anne. So, long story short, the only one that''s done is the demantoid. The wait is killing me!
Thanks guys! Another little gemmie arrived in the mail today. It''s a lovely pink tourmaline that I took a chance on as someone was giving it away for free! But the picture online was pretty awful, so I didn''t expect too much. It was described as a 5.5mm salmon pink tourmaline. It''s actually full of sparkle and almost a padparascha pink. I''ll try to get pics later if I can, but here''s the one from the person who gave it away (you can see why I didn''t really expect much from it).
Yay, my moonstone set from Kyle Anne is done, and they''re gorgeous in the pictures! She''s going to finish the tourmaline ring she''s working on right now and ship them all to me together.
I sent my tsavorite out to Erin (CreativeGoldsmith) to be set points-out in a silver swirl ring.
And Julia is working on my zircon now...woohoo!
Somewhat of a snag in Sally''s work, though. Her computer crashed as she was putting up my listing, and her tech is working on retrieving the pics and reformatting the hard drive. So while my rings have been done since Wednesday, I haven''t been able to see pictures or pay for them yet! It''s KILLING me...after waiting this long already! But it''s even more unfortunate for Sally, of course.
Thanks packrat! Kyle Anne does such lovely, quick, and inexpensive work. Having sent a total of 5 stones to her recently (3 moonstones, tourmaline, and demantoid), I just can''t recommend her enough! Granted, there are some limitations to what she can bezel...for faceted stones she generally uses tube bezels, which really only work with round stones. For cabs, rose cuts, or flat stones like the jasper she has up on her site, she does other shapes.
