Family shot of my pink spinels (omitted a tiny light pale pink) and the 2 red unset spinels still sitting in the box. White led light source. 20170802_231946-1.jpg 20170802_231952-1.jpg 20170802_232854-1.jpg 20170802_232848-1.jpg

On the last photo, is the top stone Man Sin? Looks like Jedi!

It's the red from last weekend that glowed from this angle under the white led. Misleading :)

I figured that out! But I was curious if it was sold as Man Sin. :)

Haha he didn't market it as Man Sin. Just that they are all Mogok stones. But since he's really from and living in Mogok, it may just be. I also didn't want to ask as that might increase the selling price if too much interest is shown teeheehee.

Sorting out and packing my jadeite necklace collection :) 20170803_200044.jpg
Oh my, I love seeing them all together like that! They are so sumptuous! I love the dark blue/grey one, the green blue one next to it and the new pink strand. One really sees how unusual a color it is next to the others.

Next project in the works, dangling earrings to connect to the small pairs of diamond hoops I have.

Purple African garnets with topaz and Burmese spinels. 20170813_151401.jpg 20170813_151401-1.jpg
Those are very interesting in shapes and color combination, Burmesedaze. I love how unique they will be. They are definitely not your average dangles! Lovely!
Also, the amber is beautiful! How kind you are to do this for your aunt. They surely will be both touched and delighted by them!

Took a few pieces of blue-grey and white jadeite ovals to show a friend today. These are old stock that used to be a plentiful shade in the past but not anymore. 20170818_114324-1.jpg 20170818_113836-1.jpg 20170818_114406-1.jpg 20170818_113622.jpg

a light blue 8ct Mogok sapphire (looks violet in photos but is a no shift light blue irl) just under US$3000. With a super deep pavilion. So nay to that too.

Beautiful monster ! Treatment ?

I love those gentle shades of blue grey/lavender grey. Love the truly grey one. That's actually quite unusual (for what I've seen), as I've often seen darker, patchy greys rather than a light, cloud like grey with a foamy, moist texture.

Here's another shot under white LED with a couple more I picked up. I'm going to get 1 for a simple horizontal pendant, but am having problems deciding which shade!

The longest and largest oval is us$120 and the rest they are ok with us$100 each, so nothing that breaks the bank. I'm told these are old jade/old texture which accounts for why they are more even in shade, a/c to my jewellers. 20170818_230119-1.jpg

Those are priced very nicely! It s a tough decision. In this light, the largest one has an interesting, subtle variation of color and pattern and seems to be the most saturated in color. The 3rd is very delicate and ethereal in color and has an even texture, and the middle bottom is very moody and stormy. Do you have a preference so far? They ALL are lovely.

The background of the last photo is very interesting. There are many colourful huge stones inside the gem box.

I will look at them again against my neck in the daylight. I really don't have a specific preference (which you can tell by the number of different coloured jade bead necklaces I've accumulated!). I'm now toying with the idea of setting 2 or 3 of them in a multi band bangle. Or perhaps 2 in a bypass style? Imagination overdrive. :eek2: Can.Not.Decide! :roll2:

That's the store display at Gem Museum. Every booth has these glass showcases. 3 storeys of them. Oh and the building next door too :) Not forgetting the main market with everything and a jewellery hall and more!

I know! This is how it always is with jade....practically impossible to choose one over another because each is so alive and beautiful for its uniqueness. Makes jade collection ultra addictive. Each necklace which you have is truly it's own thing.

I love the idea of a bypass bracelet! Great ideas! Please keep us posted about which ones you decide to keep.

Do you think they might be from the same boulder? If so, for me, that would make deciding really hard. The dark blue/green/grey bangle which I purchased a few weeks ago had 2 'sister' bangles. I'm still agonizing about not having purchased another one, to keep them 'together'.

The greyer ones are from the save stone, as are the lavenders from another :)

I got my answer sooner than expected. Some traders come by selling made in China sterling silver settings. Very nicely made and fairly inexpensive.
I selected the slight egg shaped lighter grey for a pendant.

Alsob picked up a rose gold ring setting for my omphacite jade. 20170819_140537-1.jpg 20170819_141811-1.jpg 20170819_141807-1.jpg 20170819_141807-1.jpg 20170819_135736-1.jpg 20170819_140537-1.jpg 20170819_141805-1.jpg

No treatment/heat

Thank you.

One more Q ... Do you ever get to see any uncut sapphire ?

[the shape of the 'monster' reminded one sapphire I dream about - an OTT polished dogtooth, worn as a pendant].

You mean sapphire rough? Yes, my jeweller has some smaller pieces with bits missing or very opaque and can't be cut into cabochon nor faceted.

20170819_193511-1.jpg under white LED which is probably the closest approximation to what I see IRL, which would be a tad less blue and more grey.

Really fabulous choice in the pendant. It's a lovely color, proportion and setting. And the ring setting adds so much fun to the stone with that rose design. Lovely finds!!

My new stuff set in Hong Kong is making their way here this coming week.

Bad teaser photo by the settings chaps! Can't wait :)

Hi Burmese, your CS goodies haul look so enticing. Love your sapphire earrings especially! My DH will be making a trip to HK this week. Wonder if you can pass me your contact in HK for doing gem settings? Much appreciated. :)

I found photos of the rough I took in 2016.

You remembered !

Sapphire rough bottom row

I see what you mean ! Corundum, allright. Then, the gray pebble with a star reminds some brooches Bottega Veneta proclaimed to be fine jewelry (darkly oxidized silver cutouts, riveted, holding large cabs) - they had me convinced ...

The dogtooth pendant I mentioned was something else: a pinkie - sized & shaped sapphire crystal, polished, with some color zones and asorted features, but, essentially transparent throughout. It could have yieded a nice faceted stone from the wider part (wild guess) - not unlike the colour of the 8 ct. stone you have posted earlier & reminded me all this, although not quite that large... I imagine similar pieces might be saved from cutting as fine mineral specimens, but I am not stumbling on such things at all - the nicest specimen sapphires do not measure up for colour & polishing them woudl be anatema in their market. SUM: I asume the object was picked by someone from upstream the supply chain of sapphire ... then, left adrift in the sea of estate jewelry. I am asuming the price of such a thign would be in line with the expected yield of conventional faceted sapphire - but, ehat do I know ... [end of rant]

I've tried asking about getting sapphire rough and having them sent for better cutting elsewhere. But as a retail consumer I was told all the rough that gets down to town would have already been well picked over from the mine owners to the Mogok stationed different tiers of high and low end traders to the cutters to Then whoever else along in the chain. So... Fat chance of a good gem quality corundum rough here!

Perhaps that pinkie sized semi polished you saw was from upstream somewhere like you pointed out or from another country where the mines and rough are more accessible :)

The quality of non starred cabochons that make their way to the market these days. Sad 20170819_135458-1.jpg 20170819_135443-1.jpg 20170819_135440-1.jpg
