My BGD H&A diamond arrived!!

Now my delema is halo or solitaire?originally I thought I set up my mind for Victor’s emilya, but now that I love this stone so much, I start to wonder maybe solitaire is better to show the beauty of the stone itself... I know it’s not a big stone, but I’m not too crazy about coverage. Here are some eye candies

These three are from Tiffany. I’m personally not a big fan of their settings.

This is HW’s the one - I always thought I wouldn’t like halo as I usually prefer simple, but this ring completely changed my mind! The pictures doesn’t justify its beauty at all. I have to say every HW ring is so delicate and pretty

This is LM’s halo, also a nice ring, but his quote is probably the highest compared to other hand forged jewelers

This is Tiffany’s pear halo. The center stone is around 2.xx carat. I almost wanted to get a pear, but since this is my first diamond ring I decided to go with the classic round

It is beautiful! :appl:

Gorgeous!!! What a beautiful diamond :kiss2:

I can’t advise on what setting to choose. I love the Emilya and think your diamond would be spectacular in that setting, but maybe wear it as a solitaire for a while until you’ve decided for certain that you want it halo’d.

Gorgeous!

Lovely stone!!!! I am no help becauss I adore the Emilia too much to be objective :)

It’s beautiful.

Gorgeous diamond! I agree with others - maybe wear it in a solitaire for a while and see if you still want to halo it after you get the chance to enjoy it for a bit.

Thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions. I agree that it would be better to try solitaire first. But if I go with solitaire, I will probably still want a hand forged one... then I’ll end up spending too much on the setting, lol. I am too indecisive...

If you liked HW anything you are going to LOVE Victor’s work. Their work is really nice but I don’t find the proportions and the height as pleasing as Victor’s. I think it’s such a good thing that you had a chance to see your stone unset so you have a chance to get to know it and decide how you want to dress it. If you were to get a solitaire setting what are you leaning toward? I do love his solitaire setting and have considered getting a plain one just to be able to set my stone into if I feel like it. I would still keep my current setting so I can swap it back in when I get bored. I know that sounds crazy.

Hope you don’t mind me sharing a pic of a an emerald cut that I tried on st HW. It’s gorgeous but I feel like the side traps were a little long and the whole setting a teeny bit high. That’s the kind of stuff that you can adjust when you work with Victor on a custom setting.

If you were on one end of the spectrum of halos and looking at one changed your mind, I'd definitely get a halo! Beautiful stone!

I would halo it! Congrats on a gorgeous diamond!

Vote here for the VC halo. You've had your eye on it from the start. If you're unsure, I don't think I would go with a hand forged solitaire setting because yes, you will be spending extra money if you decide to go back to a halo. And honey, that's money that could go towards a wedding band!

I also know what you mean about Tiffany's settings - I'm not a fan, either, especially since they altered the Novo.

Beautiful diamond, and good job with the photos! You captured the arrows nicely in the last shot. It's really hard to get a decent arrows shot, as most of the time they appear whitish or silver.

I would go with your gut on the setting. It sounds like you want a halo, so that would be my choice.

However, a VC Halo is certainly not cheap. If you're still on the fence, another option would be to have it set in a cheap ($200-300) White Gold solitaire setting and live with it for a few months to see how you like it. If you still want the finger coverage of the halo, then you could go for the halo down the road. Otherwise you could go with a nicer custom solitaire.

I love what you have got from BG. I think VC emilya halo will be perfect for this one... Can't wait to see what you decide and the outcome

I also tried this one! Yeah I agree it’s big long. I actually just saw this setting on PS, it’s also very pretty with a shorter side stone

If solitaire, I was thinking about the above setting, or the twisted band from VC but he may not accept outside stone for this particular setting.

I also like 6 prongs, but it is a little too common...

I had a solitaire setting for my 2.28 OEC. Took about 3 days before DSS kicked in and I HAD to halo it. VC's emilya STILL lets the center stone be the star. My casa is a larger halo than the VC, but it still lets the center stone pop. I think you will be very happy with the emilya! IF you really think you want to "try" a solitaire first, post in pre-loved asking for a pre-loved solitaire setting that will fit your stone OR get a stuller solitaire setting or something cheap to try it out for a while....

I love Victor's twisted band solitaire as well, and I think he will accept outside stones for this setting. There are really only a few more elaborate settings that he reserves for in-house diamonds and this is noted on the descriptions of those settings, so this one should be a safe bet. I really don't think you can go wrong with either this design or his Emilya, as his craftsmanship is over the top. You may want to think about what type of band you would wear with each design choice as well. Regardless, your project will be in amazing hands with Victor! I can't wait to see what you decide!

Wow, I was never a fan of big halo, but your casa is so beautiful!

Oh! I also wanted to remind you to check out pics of the emilya with a cathedral shank- I like the cathedral shank better than the original.

Thanks! My fiancé already bought me a plain band... so I’m not sure if he will be happy if I get another band... I was thinking about wearing the band on my right hand to prevent damages, so I guess this would save me some trouble in finding a matching ring? Although I really like stacked rings!

I think that either design would look great with a plain band, so you are set there! And I am a huge fan of stacking bands as well! Besides just changing up the look, they can be a fun way to commemorate special occasions over the years (anniversaries, birth of a child, etc.).

Can you pls clarify which diamond you actually bought? It's not clear from the thread you posted. Stats would help, as both size and color can affect a setting choice.

Your BGD stone is stunning! I say go for the halo if that's what you really want!

It’s the first one - 1.165 carat, G VS2, 6.77*6.79 mm, my ring size is 4.5

Will the twisted band be too wide for a 1.16 carat stone? I’m a little worried that my stone is not big enough for this design

I doubt it, but that would be a great question for Victor. The twisted band pave solitaire shown on his web site features a 1 ct stone and I think the braided shank looks very delicate. Here is a link to @bythebay's thread about this ring, which I think is truly gorgeous:

Victor also offers a twisted band halo, but due to its intricacy this design is not available for client supplied stones. Here is a link to @alaaax's thread about this design (which features a 1.23ct stone) just in case you are interested in this design (and still considering one of VC's stones):

If you're leaning halo and want something a little different, have you considered the cushion version of the Emilya? ...or maybe even the cathedral version? Also, the Anne Marie is lovely with the delicate split shank.
