My BFF is getting engaged! Can we help him find a ring?

I wouldn't but a gemstone ring from JA, myself. I'd rather buy the loose supernova cut spinel juliab had for 250 ish and have her make a halo for it. However, I'm still not so sure about the pink direction.

Here's a ring I found. It's shank is yellow, not pink gold, so that's one thing. The other is it was a bit over budgi, but I emailed the seller to see if it could fit in his budget. But it mimmicks a handful of the genuinely antique rings she had pinned, has an oval shape, and I did see a bit of yellow gold in there, so might be fine as a shank.

Wow Niel, I think it's gorgeous! However, I'm going to try and assume that this gal is looking for something more conventional. I'll show her bf though :)

Well you'd know her better than I , but she had these in her "board"

Good point, Niel. Maybe it's my own bias. I like it for a right hand ring, but do you think that most people would like it for an e-ring? Could a wedding band be added?

What do you think of this one? It seems too good to be true?

Or maybe this one?

(But I don't know which wedding band it would go with...)

Here are my suggestions:
FIRST CHOICE:
This setting (I'd best offer 500. They will probably want 600 and counter with it, see if you can get it for 550 though):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/391006568058?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
and one of these stones (if eyeclean, ask):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1900s-1-2-CARAT-VINTAGE-I-VS-ROUND-DIAMOND-OLD-EUROPEAN-CUT-CONFLICT-FREE-ESTATE-/171994017166?hash=item280ba46d8e:g:JqEAAOSw14xWQjL0
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1900s-VINTAGE-H-VS-OLD-EUROPEAN-CUT-DIAMOND-EGL-USA-CERTIFIED-LOOSE-1-2ct-ROUND-/401024384122?hash=item5d5eea7c7a:g:5uUAAOSwYHxWLUEV

It is similar to a bunch of the rings on her page.

Second choice:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221916314488?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It's an oval three stone with white metal. It's a nice quality piece. And it's a great deal.

Third choice:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231747618734?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Fourth choice:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/371483960718?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Another option, I think it has a good chance of being eyeclean: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oval-Cut-Diamond-Engagement-Ring-14k-Yellow-White-Gold-Genuine-58ctw-/391262780696?hash=item5b19143d18:g:hjYAAOSw9r1V702P But you'd have to ask. And it's a K at highest color, so you'd have to decide if that's okay. It does leave a nice budget for the setting.

Wow, Gypsy! You are an ebay dynamo!! I sent my friend three different styles, and once he clarifies to me which direction he'd like to go in, I'll update here :)

Currently, my pal is leaning towards this one. Should he buy the centre stone from blue Nile, too? Maybe a superb 0.50ct? Any chance an oval could be appropriate and beautiful?

I LOVE that setting. And I think it would look great with an oval.

So maybe he buys an oval from JA?

Or... what do we think of this ring? (Personally, I really like this one for having an oval, finger coverage, and white gold. She could always pair it with a very vintage band if she wanted to play up that style factor.)

Or this one (with enough money left over for a new white gold setting):

How about this:

This oval (ask for an ASET):
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.52-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-727132

And JA can order one of these three settings for him:
http://www.stuller.com/products/build/122118/9143616/?groupId=119127#/center-stone
http://www.stuller.com/products/build/122004/3637970/?groupId=113775#/center-stone
http://www.stuller.com/products/build/122059/5565830/?groupId=117410#/center-stone

Something is going to have to give. With most small budgets what the focus of the funds should be is on the center stone. If he wants an oval, then he should get one. They can upgrade the setting later.

Last time I had spoken to ja they told me they don't sell stuller anymore.

Really? That sucks. Well, someone local can order it for them I guess and they can have it sent over. Or IDJ or Wink could do it for them.

I'd get this setting, buy this necklace from fortekitty

I'd jump on the necklace fast I don't think that'll be there soon

http://loupetroop.com/listings/necklaces-and-pendants/old-european-diamond-necklace-14k-yg-18-chain

That's a fantastic idea! I love that. It would be a stunning ring!

Well, her most recent pins seem to have moved away from the halo.

So I was thinking.

She's pinned that brilliant earth replica of that earstwhile Tiffany asscher ring 3 times in her last like, 10 pins.
Brilliant earth won't let you buy that setting, but I'm certain, if you bought this stone, David klass could replicate that setting for the rest of his budget.
That is, if he's uncomfortable buying that setting off eBay.

I still think that fortekitty stone is his best bet. She says its a vs clarity, but I'd just double check it doesn't have any chips or anything.

I haven't updated because I'm goo to skype with my buddy and talk options with him. As he is not an experienced jewellery buyer, I think he would not be comfortable buying off of loupe troop or diamond bistro, unfortunately! Blue Nile or James Allen, or another one of the "big ones" might be ok with him. But he's more comfortable with brick and mortar establishments, so far. I told him to check out a local shop and compare the prices with what we were able to find at Blue Nile and ebay. I'll update after I talk with him! Thanks so much for all of your help, it has been incredible!

Is there are reason he can't just paypal you the money as a gift and have you do the buying for him?

Might be a smarter move.

That's a good idea. It IS a pretty setting. I haven't read every entry on this thread - where would he source the stone?

Diamond zone makes pretty settings, but they are not meant to last, its really a better idea to get an antique platinum one that's a bit sturder of youre going to go the eBay route.

Nvmd, I was thinking of someone else whoa on a budget
