OK, so what do you think of my idea, below? I need to talk to Brian about it still, and I am praying it won''t put me over my already-smashed budget
20.gif
, but this is the general idea. I tried on rings today and I *definitely* like some width to my rings, looks great on my hand.

Some questions...

1) Open cathedral or not? The area that is open in the Durnell ring is very small and could probably be filled in, or left open like it is in the original.

2) Split shank or not? I have always loved split shanks but I do not know how it would look. If not split it would look like the Sholdt ring.

2) Any ideas about how the shank should meet the basket at the side (seen in picture 2)? If the shank is solid and not split, then how should the shank meet the little pointed place?

I really like the open basket on the durnell and the way the basket curves up (between prongs). Cant the split area just be filled in
with metal and then have a pointy thing come up out of it when it gets cloes to the diamond? I dont have any good suggestions
but I like where you are going.

I feel kind of thick today...so I''m going to ask this at the risk of sounding totally stupid...
2.gif
why not just get the Scholdt? What would you want to change about it?

Tyty are you suggeting something like below where I circled in red, just basically just filling in the empty area with metal (I painted it grey) and leaving the pointy bit against the diamond? That is what I was thinking...

me too--I like that solution. the pointy part is really pretty and I think that helps keep the lines flowing...

I like the pointy part, too.

Ok, just to add my opinion to the mix, I LOVE the Brian and Gavin basket, and I think it would be pretty with a plain delicate band. Though I have to say I also like the 1st picture in you collage. I like that basket too and I love the delicate split shank. I am not sure how the split shank would be without the diamonds though. I love open work on the finger (see avatar) I think it gives an air-y-ness to rings.

Dreamer, are you considering the Durnell, or having Brian make one like it? I love Bridgets work and she is a lovely woman. You can call her personally and ask about any changes you would like. She will
accommodate any changes you would want to make. She has a shop in Rolling Hills Estate, CA and if you go to her website she will send you her numbers (3) to call her.

I think she is a little pricier than Brian. I love her split shank. I love that ring altogether. I love the basket on Brian''s as well. I had not noticed that before. I think the split shank gives you good finger
coverage as compared to a solitaire band.

What made you change your mind from the solitaires you were looking at from Since1910.com? Those were all great, but an entirely different look.

I thought for a second it was just me who struggled with this decision. I guess I am in good company!

Dreamer, I looked again and just love number 1 filled in. The point is great/elegant and it''s substantial without being too heavy.

I so hope you get exactly what you want. You are so helpful to everyone here, and some of your original comments back on my Helpity Help Help thread got me in the right direction for my dream ring. Your karma is seriously good.

There is no way I can afford her work right now
4.gif
But I agree, that exact ring is my fantasy ring! So I am using her work as inspiration along with some rings on Brian''s website and also some Sholdt rings. I do not want to spend too much, but at the same time would like a ring that I think is beautiful, so in the end the design may be simplified to keep things in line with my limited funds.

I moved away from the rings on Since1910 because I want a wider band and also a little more uniqueness in the setting. And I want it to match my Dream half eternity band, something that has bugged the heck out of me about my current set for the past year. I guess I am a control freak and perhaps want too many small details *just so* to buy a ring off the shelf.

Does karma pay cash? I could use some right now

Thanks for the well wishes!

And I too am really liking the way the point is filled in with the solid shank. But I also like the swoop on the side of Brian''s ring.

I really love this ring - it was on my inspirational board too. As you know, I am a huge split shank fan and I think it will be gogeous on you. I would not fill it in but you don't like pave so the broader band would work. If you want to change it to a single shank, you will probably make the bar flat versus the V.

I love pave, but just not at this point in my life!

I think that I wil do a solid shank, in which case perhaps the swoop/scoop cross bar like in the BGD pic above will work better. But I still like the sort of "barrel" shape of the Durnell basket. Like a pumpkin!

got it
3.gif

I''m sure Brian can get you the look you want! I love the open space in the split shank but I am sure he will make it look great. I am with you on wanting something that has just the right degree of
"specialness" (not that that is a word!). A unique touch for just you. It is just hard to incorporate all the details you love into one ring.

I think I could find a new setting every year for quite a long time and not exhaust all the settings I love! If only there was a trade in policy for settings!!! Can someone come up with that plan, cuz I am in!

I so enjoy sharing all the process with everyone!

dreamer did you decide?

I am getting this super duper setting
9.gif

The budget is blown on the diamond, and I cannot decide what I want, so I am going for the temp setting and will have to wait and save up for the setting I want!

Yay dreamer! A decision! A ring and a stone! And there''s a reason the Tiffany-style settings are so darn popular
2.gif
its going to look awesome!

yes it''s going to look fantastic! i can''t wait to see pictures...a simple setting to show off your giant stone!

I have the 4 pronged version, not a bad setting, looks great from the top.

Your beautiful diamond will distract you till you find a forever setting

Hey Dreamer, that is what I did! I gave myself a year to decide! It will come to you, both the funds and the decision! In the meantime, it will be lovely!

Oh I was so ridiculous in this whole process
20.gif
Honestly, Lesley is a saint. I *literally* changed my mind about buying this diamond about 6 times in the last week! I was going to do nothing, then the three stone, then the next night I was back to the solitaire and then the three stone again the next morning. I lost sleep over this decision! Lesley very smartly took to basically waiting until I called to do anything because she knew I would change my mind again

Smart lady.

Honestly, spending money is so hard for me. You should have seen us when we bought our house!

If you can believe it, I am actually worried about this diamond being too big
emembarrassed.gif

Jill actually had the same setting, same color and size, and the same finger size, so it gave me a pretty good idea what this new rock will look like!

Definitely not too big!!

It'll be gorgeous in whatever setting you choose, including the 6prong bgd you referenced earlier

I think your smart to set the new stone in the temp setting and then save up for exactly what you want!!

HI, I think that getting a temporary setting is just fine!
I do love both rings you posted though and would say that I absolutely love the Durnell ring, but maybe with less pave on the prongs. But, I love the simplicity and elegance of the Sholdt ring as well.

Right now I am thinking about what I would get as a reset as well and I love the Durnell split shank. It reminds me of the Daniel K ring that I love.

By the way, do you think they are all related? Daniel K, Natalie K, Beverly K, SImon G (okay, not a K, but still,...LOL!).
